i need help drafting a rebuttal letter to this editorial
I will make a $50 donation to DU or your candidate in your name to whomever writes the rebuttal for me. DU has an abundance of talented writers and i am so sick of this Bible thumping neutron/thermonuclear bomb fear spreading repuke attacking Dem's in this small town in upstate NY. And I am also sick of his brutish children bullying mine on the bus daily just because of our anti-war banners.I COULD JUST SPIT NAILS!

Please I am BEGGING DUers for a rebuttal? I wish i didn't need to ask anyone for help writing. I wish I was capable of doing it myself ...I would like nothing more than to see this man taken down a peg or two or just knocked on his Bible thumping ass! :grr: at self

Anyway, here is the very long winded/hate-filled letter written by ...ahem...a supposedly very "Compassionate Christian" named Dr Varelas. Dr Varelas is the ex-Guidance Councelor at our High School. He has a degree in theology and is also the Minister at the Methodist Church in town. He has written numerous letters to the editor stating that "all democrats are evil God forsaken sinners and going to hell." I am just sick to death of his ABUSE! :grr:

"America Is Not For Sale"
To the editor: Do the names listed below mean anything to the American public today or have we quickly forgotten the suffering and division that we as a nation recently experienced? Names like John Huang, Johnny Chung, Maria Hsia, Charlie Trie, Roger Tamraz, James RRiadi and Hg Lap Seng are all part of the Clinton scandals, "money for influence."

Many of these people were involved in giving illegal contributions to the Democratic national Committee while President Clinton lived in our White House for a period of 8 scandalous years. During that period nearly 50 Chinese left for China and pleaded the 5th during the preliminary investigations. Not only did the Clinton/Gore/Reno team attempt to successfully cover up and excuse these abuses, but they also hypocritically cried out for campaign finance reform after condoning and participating in abuses. This is the Administration that claimed it would be "the most ethical administration" of our time! What hypocrisy.

After Whitewater gate, Travel gate, File gate and more seriously China gate (not to mention Intern gate) we saw the gross misuse of our White House and abuse of power, as Clinton sold bedrooms for donations to the Democratic Party, primarily for himself and Hillary. Not only were Chinese communists involved, but so were embezzlers, and convicted felons. Johnny Chung, Clinton's close friend testified that Lt. Col. Liu Choa-jing, an officer in the China Peoples Liberation Army donated sums of money to the Democratic Party. Some analysts believe Johnny Chung was a spy for China.

The common thread that runs through all the corruption is the Clinton/Gore/Reno team who outwardly (or silently) allowed this kind of influencing order to get money for the re-election of Democrats, especially Clinton.

The far-reaching, harmful effects of this corrupt foreign influence on our nations security are yet to be fully understood. There is a good possibility that our children and grandchildren will pay a costly price, maybe in blood, for this corruption. Because of Clinton's illegal and harmful " money of influence" in the mid 90's China gained knowledge about our thermonuclear weapons, including the neutron bomb and our most advance warheads.

As Republicans tried to find out more about this "money of influence" they were stonewalled by loyal Democrats such as John Glenn and Janet Reno. Also, the FBI was squelched in its attempt to find out the truth in this national scandal. When Louis Frey, Director of the FBI, recommended an independent council to start an investigation, Janet Reno, Clinton's Attorney General again stopped any further investigation of China-gate. The Clinton team had one united response, "let's move on"- they were afraid of the light of truth while selling our country's national security for campaign money to the highest bidder.

May we NEVER forget our past in order to act differently in the future. May God protect America and keep us from another Administration like the eight corrupt years of Clinton-Gore-Reno.

America is not for sale!
God Bless America!
Dr James T. Varelas

he is very redundant

PM me with draft letter and i will make $50 donation in your name to either DU or your democratic candidate...hey i have to :spank: this guy

Sure Clinton was bad on this issue, but it does the GOP no good if Bush has been no better. :)

5. What about Marvelous Marvin Bush?
One of the Flying Bushito Banditos

He sure has some sWeeTheArt deals with the Evil Red Chinese. And the Chinese seem to have "exceedingly" liberal in providing George Bush's Republican brother Marvin with underage prostitutes.

So, we have here a Republican China Gate with lascivious, perverse sex and the pResident's brother.

Hello - American Media! Get off the pot. You are next.

3. The Rev. Dude is totally living in the past. It's 2004
Bill Clinton and his crowd have not been in office for over 3 years.

Meanwhile, BushCo, after stealing the election, has run America in the poor house, lied to get us into a war that has cost over 500 soldiers lives and thousands wounded, and led a wholesale attack on the environment, and heaped up DEBT that our children will be paying off for seven generations or more.

I suggest the Rev. concern himself with the problems of today, rather than those of yesterday,

12. Absolutely! But...
... didn't Shrub mention something about sex slaves in the State of the Union message last time? I guess brother Neil's activities with some young ladies of the night overseas made that issue go off the radar screen real fast.

Will we find out soon that Jenna is taking steroids?

8. Other problem - all of it that says connection to Clinton is a lie - and
the Special Independ. Prosecutor's notes that these are lies as to any Clinton Connection.

Indeed the only provable item in those years was the RNC's Haley - now Gov Haley - taking China Army money while in a boat off the China coast!

Indeed our current Sec of Labor was involved in moving bribes to the GOP from SE Asia in those years (but she married well in GOP terms so no charges).

The GOP really need a fact checker service - no wait - that would be the end of the party.

9. China got nuke technology from Reagan...
China got the technology to build nuclear weapons from Reagan, not Clinton. It was part of their obsession to do in the Soviet Union and was a big part of Iran-Contra.

I'll see if I can find the links, but I have seen it here on DU within the past month.

10. ok, lets see if this suffices
I find Dr. Varelas arguments to be both disingenous and intellectually maladroit, as his claims have no merit beyond the workings of a hard-right fringe.

His information is derived from sources that originated their stories through a network of far right conglomerates funded by filthy rich, right-wing ideologue, Richard Mellon Scaife. Scaife essentially paid off people to both make up and write stories about Democratic party members, in general, and the Clintons, in particular.

Moreover, the Clinton campaign finance investigation was the largest in history, up until 9-11. Millions were invested in this charge to no avail. Nothing came of them because they were without merit, not because they were quelled. Yes, we should remember the far reaching effects of this time. Definitely. As these million of dollars spent in fruitless investigations were taken directly out of counterterrorism efforts put forth by the Clinton administration. Freeh, a Clinton appointee, was more focused on biting the hand that fed him than on doing his job. His word hardly warrants any respect, whatsoever.

Nor should the word of Republicans involved in persecuting the Clinton's. Bob Dole and Newt Gingrich were hit with two of the biggest campaign fraud fines in history at a time when Bill Clinton was being crucified over charges that he was exonerated from. The Clinton scandals were largely partisan fabrications that produced no felony indictments from any administration official.

Which is more than you can say from the Watergate and Iran-Contra scandals.

Then again, I suppose outing an undercover CIA agent because her husband debunked a seditious presidential lie is a great act of patriotism in the warped mind of the good Dr. Varelas.

Up is down, and black is white in his narrow-minded little world.

Ignorance is bliss.

11. Until there is real campaign finance change...
I wonder why all the angst over the Clinton administration? Republicans have occupied the White House for three years now, and on top of that, they have dominated both houses of Congress. Had the Republicans wanted to prosecute these individuals that Mr. Varelas mentions, they certainly could have done that. It would seem that the Republicans have other fish to fry.

I imagine that Mr. Varelas' real concern is finally apparent in his last sentence. He simply wants to prevent Democrats from getting into power again. Yet I remember back at the beginning of the Bush administration there was a disagreement with the Chinese about a plane that went down. If I recall correctly, that plane had information recorded on its computers (or whatever fancy stuff is in planes) that would have given the Chinese information that they otherwise would not have been able to know. The Bush administration blustered a lot about the incident, but in the end Bush backed off. I assume the Chinese accessed our "secrets" to their hearts' content.

What with the "war on terror" that has been the total focus of this administration, who knows what else has gone on in China that has not made the headlines.

China could wipe us off the map if it really wanted to. We know that and the Chinese know it. Maybe the better idea is to work with the Chinese when we can and not get too upset about it when we really cannot. The last thing the U.S. needs now is more enemies. Or shall we all take a closer look at the Bush campaign contributors? Now there's an interesting thought! Anyone with the last name of bin Laden?

13. China? China? oh that China!
The China that took down one of our airplanes for flying in international airspace.

The China that looted this airplane of all electronic equipment. Creating the first (of many) intelligence failures of the Bush Admin.

The China that forced Bush to apologize for our airplane for flying in international airspace.

Well I'm sure glad this didn't happen during the Clinton years, otherwise this would be a disaster.

15. Gee...Clinton 'repaid' donors by allowing them to stay overnight
in the White House. George W. Bush just 'sells' off some part of the country or control of government policy to his donors! In the energy business, here you decide energy policy and have $XXX Billion! You're a drug manufacturer, well here, you develop the plan for Medicare and have $XXX Billion! Own a couple of hundred radio/TV stations, well just run the FCC and take a couple of billion dollars for yourself!

Re: Dr Varelas letter.

I find it deplorable that an supposed man of the cloth, the Reverend Dr Varelas, would stoop so low as to use unproven allegations and even downright lies to cast apersions against not only former President Clinton and Vice President Gore, but to extend those accusations to every Democrat in the US.

First, let's deal with the outright fiction. In 1996, US authorities received a tip from a spy that China had stolen neutron bomb secrets. The allegations have never been proven, and were little different from the allegations of theft from the same lab in 1988 under the Reagan administration. Nonetheless, Reverend Varelas sees fit to declare Clinton guilty of treason, for 'selling' these secrets for his own personal gain. God only knows where Dr Varelas get his information, perhaps from higher sources than mine. Unfortunately, I'm left with only earthly sources, which at worst would indicate a lack of proper oversite, rather than a treasonous sellout.

Next Reverend Varelas seems to imply that the Democrats have a strangehold on buddying up to China. That's odd. The Bush family alone has done a gangbuster business with China. Former President Bush was the chief liason in China from 1974-5. His uncle Prescott Bush is head of the US-China Chamber of Commerce, and has is on closest terms with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, and Rong Yiren, former trade minister and vice president, who is now the richest man in China. George Bush's brother Neil, the one who cost US taxpayer's $1 billion for his failed Silverado Savings and Loan collapse, inked a $2 million deal to be a consultant for Chinese semiconductor firm Grace, despite having absolutely no knowledge of the business.

However, a wise man once said "Judge not lest ye be judged." I agree with that man. I will leave it to the Republicans who now hold control over all three branches of our federal government to judge the misdeeds of the Clinton administration regarding illegal campaign contributions. I am sure if there is any merit to any of Dr Varelas' insulting and inflammatory allegations, the trustworthy Republicans will get to the bottom of them. After 3 1/4 years, you'd think they'd have something to show by now, but perhaps they are still working.

Oh, and regarding the Lincoln Bedroom, Clinton got the idea for 'sleepovers' from Bush's father, who, allowed Kenneth Lay, former head of Enron, to spend a cozy night there during his administration.
