David Kay on Nightline.
"You can't have a pre-emptive policy unless you have pristine intelligence." (That's as close as I can recall it.)

1. No Ted
Ted just made a totally boneheaded statement in his intro of Kay. He asked "what happened to the WMDs that Saddam certainly had when he kicked the inspectors out in 1998?" Class, who can tell me several things wrong with this statement?

3. hand raised high
1) Saddam didn't have WMD in 1998.

2) Saddam didn't kick the inspectors out - Clinton called them out because he was going to bomb.

4. first off
Saddam didn't kick the inspectors out, they left because Clinton was about to start the Desert Fox bombing.

2. Koppel is asking some good questions
Kay is sticking to the company line - Iraq is better off without Saddam.

What a whore. Has he no shame?

5. These types of people...
They are never wrong and it's always somebody else's fault.

6. I saw his testimony on CSPAN
The repugs were trying hard to spin it. This has to be one of the biggest policy blunders we have ever made. We killed a lot of people over this. There simply was no justification for this.

7. Am I the only one who thinks David Kay's media blitz
Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 11:52 PM by Cat Atomic
is ridiculously inappropriate?

Wasn't this man simply supposed to look for WMD's in Iraq? Why is his opinion on the President's complicity in hyping intelligence relevant at all? His investigation had nothing to do with that. Is he not stepping just a few miles out of his jurisdiction here?

And who booked this guy to do the media circuit? Seriously.

8. Kay - who helped Iraq get WMD
Koppel points out they got their help from us.

Kay says, well, not in the late 90's.

10. Kay quote: ...
Kay said, "He was wrong"

I distinctly remember when Kay started out, he said that he had no opinion on whether or not Iraq had WMD.

Now he's caught in his lie. He believed Iraq had WMD, otherwise he would not be wrong, eh?.

11. Quite a contradiction
He acknowledges that they had no WMD, then says with Saddam disengaged that terrorists could have gone there and gotten the weapons, THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE. And Koppel didn't call him on it.
