The real reason why Dennis Miller sold out (E! Online Oct 2003)
http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,12828,00.html

"In June, the registered Republican, whose cheerleading for George W. has earned him a ride on Air Force One and a lift in the President's limo, was being considered a suitable candidate to provide commentary on Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes' political debate show on Fox News Channel. But that deal fizzled, for reasons unknown, and now Miller will be competing for attention against Fox's Bill O'Reilly, whom Miller describes as running "a good show."

The article also states that Miller's "left bashing" has resulted in an appreciative new audience:

"Republicans take him so seriously that there had also been intimations he might even join the political fray for real, backed to run against California's Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer."

There you have it, friends...he's going to kiss as much GOP tail as needed in order to secure the title Senator Dennis Miller. And he plans to get there by using Bill O'Reilly as a role model. I saw some of the "rants" on Hannity and Colmes. The reason for the deal "fizzling" seemed pretty apparent to me. Sadly, he was in better shape on those than in tonight's "gala premiere."

Note to Dennis: Stock up on Chap-Stick. You're gonna need it.

It would be interesting to know the identity of the "backers" referred to in the article.

6. He knows dick about football and comedy too
but he has managed to get and hold jobs.

He used to be funny, but seemed to get really stupid around 1994.

I wonder if he has a problem with oxygen deprivation.

8. Miller flames out.
I was trying to decide what was funnier last night Miller, or an old can of paint. The paint was the ultimate winner. The only good thing about the show is the fact that it is so bad it will likely be canceled in a week or so.

13. Another loud mouth Radical idiot.
As I was watching Miller struggle against his own vanity last night I kept asking myself, do we really need another loud mouth Freeper polluting the airwaves? Are there not enough screaming bigoted morons on the tube already? The only real joke the show scraped out the entire evening was it's pretense to being journalism.

11. Dennis Miller is the Anti-Lenny Bruce of comedy..Kiss ass comedy
Miller is now the republican big biz jester. Not going after the people who are too thin skined for any type of humor at thire expence just shows what a coward he is..Ya know im a BIG Clinton fan..and there were more jokes about him than you can shake a stick at even before the whole monica thing but I laughed and let it roll of my back..Not the GOP though..The truth hurts too much for them

14. He was a has-been..and the repubes offered him a chance to
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 07:01 AM by SoCalDem
make some money.. He's in it for the bucks.. simple..

Repubes are "humor challenged" ,so he's a good fit for them..

All he has to do is make a few Clinton jokes,or say that Hillary is ugly and they're eating from the palm of his hand..

He's embarrassing to watch.. Anyone remember the old-time comics who had been BIG in the Catskills and Poconos (The Borscht Belt)during the 30's & 40's? That's what he reminds me of.. Those oldtime vaudeville guys would go on tv in the 60's & 70's and it actually was painful to watch them doing their tired old schtick, when we all were rolling on the floor for the "newer and hipper" comedians.. like Cosby,Richard Pryor,George Carlin, David Letterman, and the (then) young and cutting edge comedians..

Miller is passe'...he knows it..that's why he was washed up.

15. I had a thread about this
but it got locked because of the title (sigh...). The best part was when the woman said, "Did you read the paper today?" He said, "No." Brilliant comeback. Way to prepare for a news show. I guess if you're preparing for a Bush infommercial it's best not to know what's going on.

18. I don't want to get off on a rant here
But having Dennis Miller run for Senate in California would be like having Pinochet and Mahatma Ghandi doing a musical version of "Death of a Salesman" with the Blue Man Group.

19. I watched his old show on HBO once...
I never watched it again, not because he was right-leaning, but because he just wasn't funny. (And I laugh easily). He sounded more like a know-it-all neighbor or brother-in-law than a comedian.

20. I think you are over looking the obviouse
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 09:34 AM by booley
sure, Miller may want to run for political office but his switch has more to do with what every person in show business has to deal with..he wants attention. Problem is, he's not very funny or particularily talented. However, as Rush and Coulter and O'Reilly have shown, talent is not whats important when it comes to being a successful right wing pundit.
All you got to do is go "Liberals ..blah blah blah.EVIL. Liberals...blah blah blah..want to tax your aborted babies!" Balh blah blah..."
Do that and the rupert murdoch wanabe's will give you a plat form and you will alway shave a small but devoted following of dittoheads. even if everybody else sees you for the talentless hack you are.

Sure he could run for ofice but I think thats still a pipe dream. If he does that, he won't be on the safe side anymore. He will have to face actual criticism for a change from peopel who aren't RW thralls.

Gee, if I could only get rid of this annoying conscience thing, I could be big in show business!

24. Senator Boxer is my senator and she
really works for us. If they were to steal another election and give her seat to an ass like Miller, there is no telling what else they would do.

However, if his show is a hit, I doubt if he would run because Senator doesn't pay as well and with the neo-cons it is ultimately about money.
