Captain Kangaroo (Bob Keeshan) has died
on CNN now
I wrote to him 5 years ago and thanked him for teaching me to read.
He wrote back a long letter.
Goodbye Captain. I loved you.

4. Dont even Mention the name * in the same thread as the name
Bob Keeshan
Its sacrilege.
Bob Keeshan was a good man.

7. I have a wall in my house
with all the pictures of the loved ones in my life that died..including all the animals...I put the Captain's picture up there also and lit some incense..he watched over me when I was a kid in so many ways...if it wasnt for him, I would have never wanted to learn to read as much as I do now..
he was like a dad to me.
I cry today for the loss of a kind man, something that is so very rare these days in this brutish world.
I think he knows how we all loved him, whether we wrote him a letter or not. I just needed to thank him one day, a few years ago, when I looked at my life and vast array of books, and I realized, had it not been for Bob Keeshan, I wouldnt have ever read and learned as much as I did.
He will be in all our hearts, and maybe someday, as our kids grow we can watch how what he taught us also rubbed off on them to be good and gentle human beings.

10. Oh my God, all my thinking about Captain today
Mr Moose, Bunny Rabbit, Grandfather Clock - I'd forgotton Banana-Man. Thanks for reminding me.

Remember the "baby Greenjeans" bit they'd do? Poor Mr. Greenjeans would dress up like a baby?

13. I remember the banana man so does my husband
No one ever believes me when I tell them a man came on TV and pulled large bananas out of his pockets , including whole stalks with bananas all attached to each other...and then pulled out a cardboard train and filled it up with bananas..and drove the banana train away..haha yes he said WHOOOOOOOO every time he pulled a banana out of his pocket....
In retrospect, I am afraid that Ashcroft would have banned the Banana Man as being too explicit..
I thought he was a hoot

Here I was thinking the Cap'n was having a come back as the character Otto, on Malcolm and the Middle. Must be someone else after seeing the picture in LBN.

RIP, mon capitan!
