Subliminal messages in Head of State (Chris Rock) credits

I watched Head of State a few days ago and caught a couple things in the opening credits. It starts with a list of politicians names appearing one by one:

Jesse Jackson,
Al Sharpton,
Rudy Giuliani,
Joe Lieberman,
Bob Dole,
Al Gore,
Hillary Clinton.

And the joke ends with a caption:

(Are NOT in this movie)

What I noticed was, when the name Bob Dole appears,
the text is centered directly underneath a shot of the Washington Monument.
Everyone knows the Washington Monument is considered by many to be a phallic symbol. And as everyone knows, Bob Dole did Viagra commercials in the past.
Coincidence? I don't think so.

The other, more interesting one is:

In the opening credits there is a hiphop song playing in the background with the lyrics in the chorus being "Head of State" with the word "State" echoing and repeated and the end.

When the name Al Gore shows up on the screen, it is at the EXACT moment that the singer is on screen singing the words "Head of State"

Far too precise to be a coincidence. This was an intentional jab, subliminally suggesting that Al Gore is the real "Head of State."



Another unrelated tidbit from this movie:
On the commentary track on the DVD, Chris Rock talks about the Republican candidate's motto in the movie being "God bless America, and NO place else."

Rock mentions that this is a sentiment that has become prevalent in America recently, and that he refers to it as "Hate-triotism."

That's the first time I've heard that term used, but I found it to be a brilliant and cutting analogy.

1. The Last Samurai

The Samurai were "enemies" because they engaged in tradional warfare, yet when Tom Cruise returns, his captain asks, "Have they amassed any guns."

I'm not sure if I'm remembering this correctly - he may have said "weapons" instead of "guns" - but I still thought it was an odd thing to say given they were wiping the Samurai out with guns while the Samurai continued to fight with swords.

2. I saw the movie too.

The opening credits I thought was funny. As far as the thing with Dole and Gore, I didn't notice. I probably would have to watch it several times to pick that up. I did liked Chris Rock's phrase of "God Bless America and No Place Else".... The first group I thought of were REPUBLICANS! That was so right on!
