The Seattle Times liked George Bush's Speech
The last three paragraphs are the most telling.

Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - Page updated at 10:28 A.M.

Editorial
Bush in war and peace, but mostly war

His domestic policy focused on his most successful effort, his tax cuts. He said these are working, and he appears to be right. He asked that temporary cuts be made permanent so that workers and investors can count on them. He is surely right about that.

Much of the last half of the speech was the customary list of program requests, which was shorter and more affordable than in the salad days of Clinton. He suggested that the Constitution be amended to "defend the sanctity of marriage," which is a bad idea and will probably not happen. He said nothing substantial on race and nothing at all on the environment, two areas in which his administration is weakest.

But on the war on terror and the defense of America, he said it well.

1. In Blethen's circle, this probably makes sense

Of course, to the Blethens (publishers of The Seattle Times), "workers" refers to their fellow plutocrats who live in gated communities like The Highlands and "work" for a living and need their extra millions of dollars.

Never mind the viaduct crashing to the ground, the joke that is Seattle traffic, the multi-billion dollar giveaway to Boeing, thousands of homeless in the streets, historically high unemployment (even using the cooked numbers), "for rent" signs glaring out from every commercial building, etc., etc., etc.
