Wow...local Fox station reporting anti-* protests!
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 10:25 PM by ariellyn
Just saw two reports. Ohioans turned out in record cold with signs like "Bush Wacked" and "No Jobs for Oil" to protest *'s appearance at a local Ohio college. (It seems no Repug has ever won the presidency without winning Ohio.)

Next, they showed Chicago's federal plaza where 500 pairs of empty boots were set up to represent the 503 dead US soldiers from the Iraq war.

I don't watch Fox, just happened to have the TV on that channel. But, as much as I hate Fox, I'm impressed!

Haven't seen anything here yet about protests in Phoenix...
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 10:28 PM by Catshrink
there were a number of protesters on the street that was blocked off for the moron's visit. I saw them! Signs that read: "Don't Privatize Medicare."

As if the idiot can read.

on edit: I just got home and haven't seen local news yet.

3. Just saw a glimpse of protests on local FOX news
It was about 6 minutes of fluffy pro-jackass crap -- he "dropped" in at a Mexican restaurant for dinner, he met with a panel at Mesa Comm. Coll., etc. Everyone was so happy to meet the "most powerful man in the world." Puke. (Wonder who they meant, Cheney wasn't there.)

After this, about 30 seconds of "not everyone happy" with the idiot's proposals. One said "even if you have job training, you don't have the jobs." They showed some signs -- the best one said "Impeach Bush, save the US". It was beautiful.

Wonder what the other local affiliates will do.... they're not on for another hour.

10. Other Phoenix stations...
well, the others had less of the kiss the jackass's butt and more of the protests, one even interviewed a couple of them. Yes, more time was on kissy kissy than anti-Jr, but more time on anti-Jr than the FOX affiliate. Anyone surprised?

1. Same thing here in AZ
Georgie was at Mesa Community College today and of course the media was there like a bunch of frenzied sharks...but one station here actually let some protestors stand behind the reporter...at least they didn't cut to a video piece...the protestors were right there for all to see...

It was great to see that...!

2. the Ohioans were from Toledo
* was at a community college talking about his plan to fund job-training programs at such colleges.

Problem is, the state of Ohio is doing a pretty good job of funding community colleges already, at the expense of four-year schools. (I say this as a grad of U. Toledo.)

Anyway, it's good to see the protesters in Toledo. Hard-working blue collar folks are *not* a given for *, and yes, OHIO is up for grabs!! We'll take it!!

6. Fox News People Get Unemployment Jitters and Report News
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 11:26 PM by terrisel
I think it is their reaction to Bush's Illegal worker Outreach.

I think they realize that Bush and Rove have decided that the future for BFEE rule in America is going to depend on attracting Hispanic voters-and that jobs (off-camera and on-camera) at Republican Propaganda outlets will need to reflect that.

They know they are going to be pink-slipped (after training their replacements) if they keep following Bush.
The will have to look for work cleaning Wal-marts or on the chicken factory assembly lines-or do other work that the Newest New Republicans (how many times are the Republicans going to re-invent themselves) will no longer want to do.

I have been amazed at how the media has been able to resist the demographic changes in the US. So many of these media "news" people look like they were frozen in an iceberg sometime back in 1952 and then recently thawed to deliver the Republican Party propaganda.

They all look like they started out as Dick and Jane in the old readers, took a wrong turn, and grew up to be Katharine Harris and Oliver North.

I hope for their sakes that they have paid off their college loans-it's hard to do that on chicken-plucking wages.

7. Gore lost by a paltry 3% in Ohio and ignored us?
Ohio is up for grabs, we win Ohio and we win the election. I dont know where the idea came from that Ohio wouldnt vote for a Dem. This is a big blue collar state.

8. That empty boot display is a great symbol
Someone needs to make sure that the " ghosts of the fallen "
boot display haunts *bush where ever he goes from now till election day. Where ever he speaks the display should be close enough for the media to include it in a photo op.

12. I'm not sure how tightly controlled Fox affiliates are...
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 01:57 AM by Sparky McGruff
I'm not sure that Fox dictates what the local affiliates run. I haven't seen anything to suggest that the local Fox stations are modeled after the cable Fox News.

We have two local Fox affiliates (Greensboro and Raliegh), the Raliegh one runs the same news as the CBS station (owned by the same company), while the Greensboro one runs a reasonably decent news feed, that seems like it could be from any local station. I get the impression that the affiliates are reasonably independent from the network.

ABC/Disney, in contrast, tightly controls their local affiliates. If you go from market to market, they usually have local anchors that essentially look the same, and from what I can tell, they run lots of news bits handed down from the network. It also appears that the network dictates that the local anchors do "local" cross promotion, etc.

The most hideous example of ABC's local whoring that I have seen was when ABC/Disney had a licensing dispute with AOL/Time Warner (ABC wanted lots of $$ for Time Warner cable to carry their programming) During this dispute, the local affiliate ran numerous "local" spots (locally produced, with local "personalities") as "consumer reports" about the terrible problems "local residents" were having with Time Warner cable. This fits in nicely with the whorish nature of ABC's network news programming. (Plugs for ABC's "stars", and "exposes" on competitors of ABC, or those who are in legal battles with ABC).

Okay, I'll step back off the soap box now.

and I know that the affiliates don't really have much connection to Newscorp, the real bastards. My office is 100% liberal.

14. Local Fox Station in Cleveland ran protests stories for awhile now
The first one I noticed was the one about the "freedom of speech" zones. They also did a good story on the Neville Island Pa protests .
I live on the border of Ohio.I must say that Bush declining to extend the steel tariffs really has Ohio folks really pissed off.Theres almost a daily editorial about how Bush sold the steel industry out.To go a bit further a reporter on local tv station said that Bush might as well write off Ohio. This message is being reported over and over again.I`ve been hearing Bush isn't getting ohio on local news tv and print for close to 3 months now.
