Faith is Always in Fashion.
This was an ad in Parade, in my Sunday paper.

Anyone see anything weird about this?

To all DU Christians, what kind of message is this? Why should the symbol of fish be used to promote going to the mall and being a consumer of goods that are unnecessary?

Trying to load the pic of this doll for sale....

From the ad: "A devoted shopper who proudly wears her beliefs for everyone to see! From the sacred Christian symbol of the fish decorating her jeans and earrings to the devotional message on her shopping bag, it is undeniable she's making one faith-inspiring fashion statement."

(The message on the doll's bag is "Faith is Always In Fashion")

I don't understand where Jesus comes in on this "support Bush's economy by buying lots of clothes made in China and junky gadgets made in Taiwan and games made everywhere but here."

What is the Faith about? The downfall of American industry? Who is behind this type of Christian broadcasting? The Chinese? That doesn't make sense.

Are they really trying to ...(stops self here, because it sounds crazy..)

5. My neighbor has the 10 Comm. on her porch.
While her kids do things I should report, but don't.

I'm not a Christian, but I think Jesus himself would be turned off by the shopping bag he is now supposed to represent.

2. All that consumer waste
How else do you hasten the destruction of the planet and the second coming of Jesus?

The Bible says animals and such are there for us to use (and, presumably to consumers..) to dispose of as we see fit.

Expand that idea to the Earth itself, and you have yet another catastrophe to hope for as a way to summon the messiah.

3. if faith means trusting your heart of hearts...
My definition of faith is this poem:

in the desert i saw a creature, naked, bestial, who held his heart in his hands and ate of it, i said: "Is it good friend."
"it is bitter, bitter"
"but I like it, because it is bitter, and because it is my heart."

This stephen crane poem is my definition of faith.

i'm sure the poem might have a word or two out of place as memory serves... please forgive. :)

4. I'm not a Christian,
but I've read the Bible. It says that a Christian should not be showy in their faith, but should, instead, 'go into your closet to pray'. I have always felt that one's faith shows up best by one's actions, not what one wears, etc.

6. This sums it up nicely, I think:
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 09:32 PM by blondeatlast
Mat 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites : for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Mat 6:07 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen : for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Mat 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

In other words, He knows who really worships Him, because they don't say it aloud . . .

I really wanna see that wretched thing. I Googled to no avail.
