CBS evening news rocks
In their lead story, John Roberts reported on * is now taking "responsibility" for the uranium lie in the SOTU address, and on the * administration's shifting "goal posts" (I think it was, i.e., rational) with respect to justification for the war. Very hard hitting. Sorry I didn't take notes...

1. Yeah! About time.
CBS is doing the best job of portraying Bush's dishonesty.

2. CBS has been pretty good lately
I'm looking forward to the day (may it soon come) when all this taking of responsibility actually means something. First, Tenet "took responsibility"; then it was Whatshisname, Rice's assistant; now it's the Dim Son himself. Well, thousands of people are dead because of the lies and the shadings, and the emphases, and the agendas. Who's "taking responsibility" for all that? And what is a just return for the taking of those lives?

Is it enough for someone to say, "My bad," and be done with it? Or is something more required to compensate for all the lives lost? Should someone actually be required to lose his or her job? Or worse? Would "mercy" mean something else entirely if the families and the survivors of the dead were in a position to judge?

3. Yea, dimson's press conference and the
'buck stops here' statement is just a stab at damage control. I bet he fought like hell not to have to do it, too.

4. I admire & respect John Roberts
He was offered a job at Fox News & turned them down & said something along the lines as "sorry, but I am a NEWS reporter" or something along those lines. I agree. CBS is the ONLY news I watch anymore. Cable news can NOT be trusted.I like Dan Rather,Mike allace,Scott Peley,Ed Bradley,Bob Shieffer, & even Andy Rooney! CBS Is the best! Keep hearing their doing awful in ratings.Funny how they are doing bad in the ratings & yet they tell it how it is when it comes to Bush. Does anyone else see a connection?

In his first news conference in three months, President Bush says America is progressing in Iraq, pointing to the deaths of Saddam's sons even though Saddam is still at large, John Roberts ........

7. Three months?
I heard it was 9 months since the last "press conference". That's what WINS radio 1010 a.m. said when it began.

9. Well, there was the fully scripted "press conference"
Right on the eve of launching the invasion. Remember Chimpy got caught on mike just as he was wrapping up saying "Let's see, who's got an easy one"? All the questions were submitted beforehand, all the answers prepared in advance, and Helen Thomas and Terry Moran were studiously avoided.

For the life of me, I can't imagine why the presstitutes put up with this nonsense. I think quite a few of them are professionals, despite all appearances, and it really has to grate on their professional sensibilities to be such subservient cogs in the Karl Rove Propaganda Machine. Or are the invitations to the "right" parties that all-consuming?

12. Isn't this his eighth one total?
I think his father had over a hundred at the same point in their presidency.

10. So True
Talk is cheap. What are the consequences of taking responsibility?

Nothing, apparently.

Bullshit!

5. Did you know that Dan Rathers big break was
covering the JFK Assassination in Dallas as a field reporter? Some say that he got promoted for supporting the coverup/lies etc

I don't know what to think of Rather. He does have a liberal bias, which is kind of bad because the right can point to him and Jennings even if they only say 1 biased thing a month and hold it up as proof of left bias on the networks, which is bogus.

13. What in the world are you talking about? You think the corporate media
"kicks ass" and is "on our side?" It would be more accurate to say that they are a reactionary disgrace, NEVER ask the tough questions, always prop Bush up, & are largely responsible for the crisis the country presently finds itself in. And they're "on our side?" With allies like that, you don't need enemies.

14. EMAIL THEM!!! evening@cbsnews.com
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 10:27 PM by calimary
That's the address - let 'em know John Roberts is hitting the bull's eye. Let them know America DOES INDEED care that we were lied to - to rush us all into war, that we KNOW there's been a cover-up and a blame-go-round about the war, the lies, the missing WMDs, and now also 9-11. LET THEM KNOW!

REPEAT

LET THEM KNOW!!!

The media won't do squat about this unless they think their lilsteners/viewers/readers expect them to DO THEIR JOBS!!!

Don't let them give bush YET ANOTHER IN A CONTINUING SERIES OF FREE PASSES!!!

LET THEM KNOW!!!

Sorry to shout, but I've posted this stuff many times before and it gets virtually no reaction. But many of us (correctly) continue to lament how the media keeps going easy on bushco. WELL, WE HAVE TO SHAKE THEM AWAKE!!!

A few of them have started to come out of Rip Van Winkle-land. A scant few. WE NEED TO LET THEM KNOW THEY'RE ON THE RIGHT PATH! Because if they're just now waking up, they're still AWFULLY GROGGY!!

On edit - Let me just repeat that email address for you -

evening@cbsnews.com

USE IT! Tell John Roberts he's doing the right - I mean CORRECT - thing!
