Springer Has Few Senators Backing Him

Senate has few Dems for Springer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prospect draws snorts, not support

By Carl Weiser
Enquirer Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON - With TV's Jerry Springer set to decide within days whether to run for Senate, the prospect of his candidacy Tuesday drew snorts, chuckles, groans and eye rolls from the very group he wants to join: Democratic senators.

"Lord help us," said Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La. "He's an American citizen, and he has the right to run; but all I can tell you is if our politics have deteriorated to that level, Lord help us all."

Her fellow Louisiana Democrat, John Breaux, pronounced Springer "pretty colorful for Ohio."...
------------

I definetly agree with the senators on this one. Springer can run against taft for governor in a few years.

We need to Draft Sherrod Brown for this. He'd be a wonderful senator and he has the perfect last name. He's a progressive caucus dem who could win a red state, and he'd be a good senate candidate to campaign with Edwards or Kerry or Graham if they get the nomination.

How about Drafting some senate candidates? Gephardt in Mosouri, somebody in Georgia(MLK III?)

democratic party.

3. Beggers can't be choosers, Mary.
Lord help us indeed. Your politics HAVE deteriorated to that level. You are in no position to discriminate.

4. She's a liberal for the state she's in
And she's from an oil state, just like Max Baucus. They have to support some bad policies to not be bought out of office but they are are great on alot of other issues.

6. I agree with bombtrack on this...
southern senators like Landrieu, who are moderate enough to get reelected in "red" states but not DINOs like Zell Miller, are going to be key if the Democrats hope to ever get a real Senate majority. Just because of the way the Senate is apportioned-- there are more relatively low-population red states than relatively low-population blue states, so we're fighting an uphill battle and can't afford to rely on only people who would be acceptable to us coming from a place like New York or California.

9. Wow a realist on DU
you don't find many of them. Most people here think the best way to win elections is to support every left-wing cause known to man 100 percent of the time, even if they contradict each other, or else you're a DLC whore sell-out. At least in congress. It's fine if you're a self-proclaimed centrist from a tiny liberal state as long as your from "the democratic wing of the democratic party".

They're also not republican lite if they have a solid pro-life record, as long as they're a vegan spiritualist that would put She-males on the supreme court

7. Could liven up C-SPAN, though
Senators taking off their tops and all that - we'd finally show the British House of Commons how it's done!

8. Gephardt for Senator ~ What a GREAT Idea
I love it. Gephardt is a good man and deserves a promotion. Just not the presidency. Senator Gephardt ~ it has a good sound to it.

10. I have no problem with him being a senator
however since he can't win according to polls, I want him to stay out.
