Do we have a candidate to abolish the Dep. of Homeland Security?

If Vice President Gore's re-inventing government commission was still around, this department would be first on its list for elimination! Isn't the Department of Defense in charge of Security, and the FBI in charge of federal law enforcement?

Forgive me, but the rush to create this department was brillant. It got our minds off the real problem, why did 9/11 happen in the first place and what could have been done to prevent it?

This Department has sacrificed our liberities, it will not stop other forms of terrorism in the future, and it has created a new group of candidates that now want to make this useless department even larger. I now know what I want in a primary candidate, I want a Democrat who will abolish this Department of Homeland Security because it is taking money away from security..not defending our freedom! Am I in the right party?

1. Arn't the coast guard and the INS in that department?

Methinks you have specific complaints about "part" of that department, but if we put the spreadsheet of all parts, their employees and the functions/responsibilities... that you might have a difficult time "abolishing" it. Perhaps cutting her back a tad.

Sounds like you really want to have a go at "intelligence"... and i agree... i think the lot of them... ALLLLL of the american intelligence organizations should be re-formed as "USIA" us intelligence agency. This would take over all assets (including human) that were worth keeping... likely an 80% cost reduction can be achieved... Considering that the intelligence services are an utterly incompetent total waste of resources, that 80% of billions and billions hidden in black surveillance of americans would contribute to refilling the hole AWOL left in the bank account.

3. I wonder where all this "intelligence" goes?

Max Cleland has been raising hell about the same issue, and how the Department of Justice, the NSA, the DIA, and the CIA have been stonewalling on their commission's required intellegence to carry out investigations. We have a real problem if these organizations can't provide this basic intelligence to a congressional commission.

5. We already have a DEFENSE department

but it's really a WAR and DIRTY TRICKS dept.. The whole Homeland Security deal was to "reward" Tom Ridge and give him a job.. They led him to believe that he waould be the VP ,but the fundies got their chastity belts in a twist and * weaseled out.. This was Ridge's payback.. So now we have a color chart , a bunch of unhappy employess and not a lot more to show for it.. We have wasted Billions setting up Tommy's Playhouse, and we are not a bit safer..

Until they have people who speak ALL the middle eastern languages and understand the culture, we will never be "safe"
