Jobless man plans to trail Bush economic tour!
This cracks me up! Here's the intro paragraph to the website:

Hello, thanks for visiting my site, JobforJohn.com. Last Thursday, July 24th I was "downsized" from my job of 3 years at a software company.

Later the same day I heard that President Bush's economic team would be doing a bus tour through Wisconsin and Minnesota this week touting Bush's tax cut and its prosperous economic effects.

"What a bunch of BS. I'd like to give their PR tour a dose of reality," is what I thought. So I packed up the minivan and decided to follow their bus around the countryside and talk to whoever would listen about the real facts--that this economy stinks, and Bush's tax cuts are making it worse.

1. Wow
this guy is great! Just common sense stuff - thanks so much for posting it Gloria - he's a treat in these days of slimy rhetoric.

I wish I had a job to give him.

5. I like it .....but...
my first inclination is that people wouldn't be very sympathetic. They would wonder why he's not out looking for another job.

6. I loved this part:
The back of my mind is buzzing--am I about to have an accidental conversation with Secretary John Snow in the drive-thru of a Culvers in Wausau, Wisconsin?! Is this happenning completely by luck and because the drive-thru cashier knows me on a first name basis?

"What's your story?" Snow says.

I tell him I was laid off last week & saw that he was coming & I thought it was important to come here and let him see the reality of what's going on in today's economy.

"What industry were you in?"

"Most recently the software industry."

"That's a particularly vulnerable part of the economy."

"Yes, well, I need a new job & it doesn't look good."

"Just wait," he said. "The first tax cuts haven't really taken effect. So just wait... the second tax cut... well, it' won't hit the economy for several months, but I'm sure you'll get a job."

"But, but... we've already lost over 900,000 jobs just since March first... a job at Wall-Mart just won't support my family."

"Just wait, I'm sure you'll find a job."

At that moment the car in front of me pulled ahead for their order and John stepped back from my window. The SS agents signalled for me to pull ahead.

7. Are there any MN DU'ers that can help him?
A brief resume is on his site, certainly someone can help. I just moved from MN so I plan on calling and emailing some friends in the software industry up there to see if they're hiring.

By the way, this is my 100th post YAY!

9. I'll see what I can do
Northfield is about an hour outside the Twin Cities, so he's looking at a hell of commute. But there might be some cracks opening where I work.

11. Here's a talking point:
These guys are riding on a Prevost-based tour bus. Prevost is made in Canada. On the other hand, the other well-known basis for a tour bus is the Silver Eagle. The Eagle is made in Texas.

Go get 'em. ;-)

13. Economic tour
The Bush team (I call them the Terrible Trio or TT) came to Wausau, WI in not one but two buses with 4-5 cars of Secret Service men. One of the buses held the press--guess they aren't good enough to ride with the TT. They parked right in front of Culver's door and scurried inside where they had 10 hand picked families that had received their rebate checks. I stood across the street with about 40 protesters made up of local people and those on the bus shadowing the TT. We had great signs and shouted amplified slogans. Even had a dog with a "Dogs Against Bush" sign. None of the TT press came and talked with us. A representative from the shadow bus did go across the street and talked with them and gave them prepared information packets. Many cars drove by us and gave us the thumbs up sign. There were only a handful of Bush supporters. This was another staged PR campaign by Bush. Good thing is they only spoke to the faithful so no new converts. Bad thing is how much does this PR stunt cost us taxpayers?
