The New York Times whitewashes Bush’s lies about Iraq
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2004/jan2004/wmd-j15.shtml

An editorial published January 11 in the New York Times, the leading US daily newspaper, demonstrates the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of what passes for liberalism in contemporary America. It is a cover-up of the systematic lying employed by the Bush administration, the congressional Republicans and Democrats, and the American media to justify the US invasion and occupation of Iraq.

The Times whitewash is particularly reprehensible because it seeks to masquerade as a critique of the Bush administration’s preparation and launching of the war. There are more than a few harsh adjectives to describe the White House’s actions: “reckless rush to invade Iraq,” “obsession with the Iraqi dictator,” “falsity of intelligence estimates,” “failure to find anything significant.”

The central proposition advanced by the Times is that the Bush administration was a victim of misinformation and misjudgments, which led the US government to produce what the editorial’s headline describes as “The Faulty Weapons Estimates.” This is a grotesque lie: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld & Co. were not merely mistaken on the question of weapons of mass destruction. They deliberately and consciously fabricated claims of an imminent Iraqi threat to the United States to terrorize the American people and override the widespread popular opposition to an unprovoked invasion of a sovereign nation.

It is hardly necessary to rehash in detail the massive evidence of US lies on Iraq. The major allegations of weapons of mass destruction made by Bush administration spokesmen during the seven-month campaign for war, from September 2002 to March 2003, have been completely disproved, in many cases even before the war began. The Bush White House was compelled to admit that one of the central charges made in Bush’s State of Union Speech in January 2003, that Iraq was seeking to purchase uranium for nuclear weapons in Africa, was false and was known to be false by US officials when Bush’s speechwriters put the words in his mouth.

1. the media is the "axis of evil"...including the NYT
You want to know why people are "angry"...corporatism in America is why we're angry.

When a person understands "who owns the media" and understand that it's nothing more than corporations with an agenda of power and greed.

We have all read the stories or seen the web sites which document how the media is no longer free to investigate and share the truth at a mainstream level -- where most Americans still get their news.

We understand the bias on TV ... you know who each person is before they open their mouth for their next biased question or slanting of a story.

We see how they are allowed to lie, misrepresent, and deceive because they fly their flag under the banner of Entertainment.

We see how "they decide the news" - they decide what the American people should think and what they should not know.

The internet has exposed the truth to many -- and they are pissed. We are pissed because we see the truth and yell at our TV screens for justice. We see the truth and we wonder why they won't share the news.

We all understand the media has an agenda. An agenda that quite frankly has cost American lives. They have allowed the facts, the other side, the truth to be distorted or simply not shared about this president.

We are reliant upon foreign press to reveal news that the mainstream won't report because of truth. We are reliant upon alternative radio to read the "real news" and accept calls from people who can see the media charade.

And now we have another "election season" of spin, trashing our candidates, framing what is shared with Americans, and they again have the power to "cripple" any candidate for the run against the puppet in power (clearly revealed by Paul O'Neill's book)

What will it take to reveal the truth. Perhaps another grass roots effort and time for the people, once educated, to see the media lies. The media (and corporations) prefer that you work a few jobs, have your hands full and settle down at night so they can "brainwash you" with how you need to "think".

It is obvious to us and known to our elected candidates but the "fourth estate" (media / corporations) own thier vote, own thier opinion on issues. We yell at CSPAN on some bills passed because we don't understand why so many seem compromised. We yell about our own DNC for not speaking up -- quite frankly the list is too long.

Most Americans think that Paul O'Neill's group is "sour grapes"...why..because the media shared the white house spin. I doubt you will hear another version and the "gag order" is in place. It is now up to us to keep it number one...why?

* Because it reveals what the media does not...that we are run by a puppet who is controlled by others with an agenda -- PNAC or big $$$.

* Our election is at risk. Computerized voting is a potential "election fraud" waiting to happen again and the politicians are quiet on addressing the problem.

* Our rights , our freedoms are dependent upon truth in the press so that more of them are not lost.

We rant and rave on here everyday about the "axis of evil". Sad but true...it's media corporatism that is the enemy.
