5 websites/online journals that are must reads?
You don't have to rank them (though you can if you like), and please don't include DU and Buzzflash (these, I assume, are givens). You can include blogs, poltical mags., or even a certain newspapers' editorial page. Please don't do authors. Feel free to include pay sites. My list here is a mixture of both fun and informative--nothing overly academic (though I love Alterman because he gives links to some pretty heady shit).

My list, in alphabetical order:
1) Altercation
2) The Daily Howler
3) Mediawhoresonline
4) The Nation
5) Tapped (The American Prospect blog)

1. Here's my list; just favorites, not all political

1. tompaine.com: Superb, intelligent, thoughtful.
2. collegefootballnews.com: So I like college football. Great site.
3. The Nation: I agree here with the poster.
4. freerepublic.com: Always up to date on Rove "talking points." Now the mainstream of the Republican Party; slavishly pro-Bush (evolution and Civil War posts entertaining nutjobs, too). Sorry, but if you want to know what has become of the GOP, you must visit this site from time to time.
5. moveon.org: Pretty obvious. Getting a lot of attention.
Bonus pick: Findagrave.com. Love this site for so many reasons; worth a visit.
Almost forgot: Project for a New American Century. The neo-con Bible site. Absolutely have to monitor it; horribly dangerous and destructive to our nation, but all-powerful under Bush.

14. I'm from the the school of thought that says who cares
what they think or say on freerepublic or the GOP. You can get that on the news.

15. I second that on Talking Points Memo
I always read Josh to get an even-handed interpretation of political tea leaves. Don't always agree with him, but he is remarkably astute.

4. My list
Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 12:50 PM by demothinker
In no particular order:

1) Bartcop-www.bartcop.com (THE site for liberal outrage)
2) MWO-www.mediawhoresonline.com
3) Altercation-www.altercation.msnbc.com
4) WorkingForChange-www.workingforchange.com (great activist and collection of liberal commentary site)

and my sure-to-be-flamed choice:

5) Drudge - Sure, he's right-leaning, but I've seen anti-right headlines and stories there as well (i.e. he was all over the O'Neill story). I've found it to be a good site for keeping up with events, and his right-leaning gives me a good idea of the conservative spin on things.

On edit: corrected altercation and mwo url

10. Center for American Progress - GET their email distro
It is the best distro I've got, hands down.

It is neat, clean, exhaustive and honest. It comes once a day and if they ever become aware of any mistakes the email a correction almost immediately.

I think very highly of the resource.
