Poll question: Why the hell do you watch CNN/MSNBC/other cable news?
Genuinely curious. I gave it up a year ago and have felt...well...free ever since.

1. I hardly watch any
The only show I'll watch is "Crossfire", and that's only 30 minutes a day.

2. CNN, to get all viewpoints
I watch Buch & Press, and a little CNN, just to make sure I'm getting all viewpoints in order to make truly informed decisions. Plus I like to see what these crackpots look like so I can run if I come up on them in a dark alley!

10. BBC
If you have a sattalite dish you can watch the BBC. If not then go to their website. They have news from around the world and much better coverage than what we see from the cable "news" channels. You can get live streaming audio from their world news radio service.

11. Fox
I only watch Fox because it's entertaining, even if it does make me angry. Last night, I was ready to kill Sean Hannity. He said that the "Democratic" preacher "didn't know what he was talking about," but when Hannity said the federal government was spending more, he never said that they were spending more to help the very poor. I have no idea why the preacher, in support of Bush's faith-based initiatives, didn't call him on this.

CNN is better for more sane editorial comments and for news overall, I think, while MSNBC has become much better over the past few months. And now that Mike Savage is gone, it's even better!

turn into BBC...but I have been known to go to CNN for some other stuff...it seems that CNN is opening up...in my opinion...

F_ck Faux News...any news network that supports Orielly and Anthrax Coulter(the twins of treason)will never be shown on my tv...

other times I turn it off and check with independant news sources on the net...

17. I don't.
I quit watching tv news over 2 1/2 years ago. I don't watch it at all. I don't listen to much on the radio, either. The only radio news I get is NPR; my alarm is tuned to it, so I wake up with it.

I read my local conservative rag, and I get the rest online.

You are right about the freedom. I have noticed how frustrated people around me are; they tune in obsessively, and vent constantly.
I prefer reading my news!

19. everyone has an agenda...
Yes... even the BBC and NPR... everyone has an agenda. he best you could hope to do is watch all the news, analyze it, and find out who is saying what and why.

I primarily watch CNN Crossfire and Hardball on MSNBC. Other than that, I get most of my news from as many websites as I can. ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, Chicago Tribune, BBC, Washington Post, New York Times, CNN, you name it I visit it.... except Fox... I can only watch FOX on a strong stomach. It makes me want to puke.

20. Addendum to my "simply addicted" vote
I was simply addicted BEFORE 9/11, AFTER just pushed me beyond the design tolerances for the human mind.

To be fair, though, I spend a good deal of my newschannel-addiction time on C-Span.

27. I watch..but less anbd less
I'm a newshound. Always have been. The Internet has been a godsend for obvious reasons.

But to get a sense of the zeitgeist -- and to see how things are being "played" -- I watch cable crap too. And I want to see how the battle goes. So I sift through the crap to get a sense of that.

But I'm finding that I watch less and less. It's like one of those habits that has gotten old, and you know you don't really get anything out of it.

The lack of subatsnce actually feels like a psychis assault. So I'm watching less.

30. What I find "worth seeing"
I am in the Chicago area - all times and stations reflect that.

Every morning I turn the TV on to see the morning shows. How much I watch depends on what is happening and how early I get up. It is generally crap before 8am and it gets worse in the last hour. But I have to know what happened overnight. I know it is pasteurized, but I mean the big stuff. I think it is because it was over a half hour before I knew about the first plane hitting the WTC and I learned about it just in time to turn on the TV when the second plane hit. I turn the TV on before I even go to the bathroom.

I watch WGN's noon news if I am home. They have been pretty good about talking about protests and other such events in the Chicago area and do a better job on world events than the other noonish news.

I try to catch network news at 5:30 - ABC or CBS only - I have NO patience for NBC news at all.

Whenever I can I catch the BBC news at 6am, 6pm and 10pm on chanel 20.

And, of course, Nightline at 11:05pm

Sometimes, if I am especially insomniatic, I watch ABC's late night news - they tend to talk about things that are "not fit for prime time."
