Kevin Phillips C-SPAN2 Noon Today
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 11:40 AM by seemslikeadream
Speech
American Dynasty
Borders Books & Music

Phillips talked about his book American Dynasty about the Bush family's political activities over several generations. His remarks focused on the family ties to business and the intelligence community, as well as their use of Machiavellian methods in wielding power.

He hasn't stopped being Republican. Its just that he's appalled at what the Republican Party has become under the Bush dynasty.

"Three generations of immersion in the culture of secrecy...deceit and disinformation have become Bush political hallmarks," Phillips notes.

To Phillips, however, the greatest threat to America posed by the Bush dynasty is not its inherent unfitness to rule. What most offends and angers Philips is the threat that the imposition of the Bush dynasty on America poses to democracy itself.

5. I just watched it....woo hoo!!
"Real" conservatives DON'T LIKE THE BUSHES!! The neocons are totalitarian fascists, plain and simple.

Kevin Phillips, for all his liberal-bashing, is a conservative spokesman for true Democracy, and stated that labor should be placed ahead of capital. He mentioned in this speech about Ike's warning concerning the military industrial complex, and then slammed the press for being out to lunch. He didn't go so far as to agree with the questioner who mentioned the media complicity with the BFEE, he just played it as if the media was lazy, and were dealing with sensitive issues that couldn't all be proven.

Of course, I don't agree w/ that: I think the press is complicit as hell...they are bush shills, plain and simple. Of course, if Phillips believed that, he'd have to compromise some of his "conservative" self-identification, which he seemed loathe to do -- which of course, gives him "more credibility" with those members of the public who would just label him as a liberal without further consideration of his views.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm glad I caught this.

From Phillips website

But considering an additional relationship may explain even more. After four generations of connections to foreign intrigue and the intelligence community, plus three generations of immersion in the culture of secrecy (dating back to the Yale years of several men in the family), deceit and disinformation have become Bush political hallmarks. The Middle Eastern financial ties of both Bush presidents exemplify this lack of candor, as do the origins and machinations of both Bush wars with Iraq. Appendix B in this volume reviews the family's is penchant for secrecy and for cleaning and locking up government records.

...The apparent intensity of religious fundamentalism in the United States polls reported that almost half of U.S. Christians believe in Armageddon, and the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado succeeded in getting Washington to renumber U.S. Highway 666 because fundamentalist Christians worried about its satanic symbolism demonstrates that not all of the world is religious radicalism has loci in the Middle East and Central Asia.
(wow, I didn't know that!)
