When the cartoonists come at you, you know it's all downhill from there ;-)

1. I used to have some respect for Powell...
...because I really thought he had some integrity. He really disappointed me with his performance in front of the UN and thereafter.

So sad.

3. I met him when we were both active duty
I was a staff sergeant, and he was a major general.

In Giessen, Germany -- I was so impressed with him. So tall and impeccible bearing, with those bright shiny stars on his shoulders.

Now, I wouldn't allow him to clean my cats litter boxes.

5. Belafonte, who I DO respect pegged him...called him a house slave
Harry Belafonte who works for worthy world causes and IS a man of integrity was on Larry King and called Powell a "house slave"....a slave that was treated specially by the slave owner and given light duties for doing the dirty work asked of him....

11. Very, very eloquent.
And he was completely right in what he said about Powell.

4. he's been a liar since My Lai
and used his skills at lying and covering up to sweep Iran-contra under the rug. Hence his meteoric rise. It's nice to see that even the mainstream is starting to see that this toad is not a prince. See consortiumnews.com for details of his sordid past.

8. Exactly
A little research into his history shows exactly what kinda guy he is. Scum like the rest of them.

10. And he continued with his lies during Gulf War I
When he presented the faked satellite photos to the UN that supposedly showed Saddam massing troops along the Saudi border, even though commercial satellite photos from the same time period showed nothing but empty desert.

15. MORE faked satellite photos??
He seems to have a thing for those. Those photos he showed to the Security Council really had me scratching my head. They could have been taken at an industrial park right here in the U.S. And that little vial of "anthrax", my God, it was all so embarrassing. He actually brought PROPS.

6. I am another of the disillusioned
he should have resigned before the phony performance in front of the U.N. Security Council debacle where he provided the world with forged documents and clip art. Disgraceful.

16. I agree
even when speaking about his satellite photos and props, it was clear he was lying. He spoke with eyes cast downward, without any verbal emphasis--he looked like a man defeated, and I don't understand why he did not walk away at that time. It could have salvaged his political career. Working for Bush brought down Powell's property value big time.

7. Good to see this finally coming out
I posted a thread earlier asking how he gets away with it. Maybe he won't, from now on. I don't want his mea culpa when he is forced out in a second term. We need to hear from him NOW, if he has a shred of integrity left (probably not).

12. He strikes me as a man not overly endowed intellectually
but who has the act down pat. I think that is why so many people thought he had integrity and was a real stand up kind of a guy. He plays the part well, better than Bush does, but nevertheless he seems to be playing a part and has rehearsed his role so many times that he knows it by heart, right down to the serious looking, decisive, "thinking" Powell we see in the photos positioned behind or next to Bush at some important event. The expression is always the same in those photo ops. He is paying strict attention to his Commandeer in Chief leader, brows knit, and intensely concentrating on Bush, to whom he has just given some profound piece of strategy. I think at this point it is safe to say Powell is probably advising Bush on what tie to wear more than any foreign policy.

14. you are all right
in your analysis of Powell, for the most part, in my opinion. Not a big fan either.

In the past few years though, it must be kept in mind that State has battled with DoD quite often. Sometimes it seems like Powell is the only one who could counter Rumsfeld from the inside. Powell has done more to stop Rumsfeld when he had the political power to do so than any of the Democratic nominees we all see to worship around here.

But yeah, I'd still never want him in a new administration under a Democratic President.

18. He DID fool me.
that is, until his son started doing his thing at the FCC. As soon as I saw what scum Michael is, I realized that I need no longer be confused about what Colin is.
