Is it possible to beat both the DLC and the Repubs ?
Does the liberal wing of the Democratic Party really have two opponents? We will know when the DLC is defeated and see which side they take? Will they still be with the "liberals" of the Democratic Party or will they move to the conservative wing of the Republican Party. (There is no moderate wing of the Repub Party, in my opinion)

And if they do not support the "liberal" wing of our Party, what will we do then? How can we win without all the Democrats voting? And if we do anticipate winning, does it make a lot of sense to piss people off that we might need later? And the same applies to the DLC people. I'm having difficulty understanding the degree of animosities.

Let's just have a good ol'fashion slugfest and see who wins? If we win, we will expect a pat on the back and a commitment of support from the leadership of the DLC. Vice-versa, if the moderates win, we should be ready to give them a pat on the back and a commitment of support to beat George W Bush - just as we gave our support to Clinton twice. In the meantime, let's just settle this the old-fashioned way - at the ballot box.

4. Hear hear. We have to every democrat on board to win in November.
We can't afford a divided democratic party. If the lefties and mods of our party don't come together behind the nominee, we are doomed.

6. don't equate the DLC with moderate Dems, kentuck
Speaking only for myself, I don't want to *defeat* moderate Dems - contrary to popular DU belief, most progressive Democrats aren't averse to sharing a party with those further toward the center. What I *do* want to defeat partywise is the corporatism and the dismal politics of meaninglessness that the DLC represents.

Can we defeat both those and the GOP? We likely won't defeat the latter without defeating the former.

8. Will the DLC be among the power brokers, next Spring???
I.e., will they control the soft money strings, and be in a position to fund their favorite, right into the nomination??? Will they work with the DNC, to propell their candidate(s) onto the ticket??? I suspect that they will, and the resulting nominee will either be Kerry or Lieberman. That is, as things now stand -- there is still some time for the other candidates to 'catch fire', but they better hurry!

BTW, this is NOT how I want it all to turn out....

9. To Understand Effects of a 3rd Candidate, Examine:
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 05:39 PM by quam
The 1992 Perot campaign. Did Perot's campaign help or harm the chances of Bill Clinton in becoming President?

and

The 2000 Nader campaign. Did Nader's campaign help or harm the chances of George W. Bush in becoming President?

I'm not asking if the help or harm was significant or to consider other circumstances. Was there an affect to the chance, any, based alone on the third party candidacy.

Then ask, do you want George W. Bush to be elected President in 2004?
