sNIDe Remarks - Fuzzy Math on the WA Gov Race?
sNIDe Remarks
Posted: Friday, Jan 14, 2005 - 08:10:41 am PST
Computers,ballots can't pick leaders

Governor's race proves it

We may be a bunch of meth-smokin' rednecks in North Idaho, but unlike Brainwashingtonians, we are not confused by simple math.

OK, here's the skinny: Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi initially won the election by 261 votes. Then, a computer recount had him winning by 42 votes, for a grand total of 303 votes -- right?

Not satisfied, the Dems decide to hand-count the votes and, surprise, surprise, Democrat Christine Gregoire wins by 129 votes. Well, if you take 303 and subtract 129, you get 174. So, duhhhh, Rossi still wins - right? Even George Bush can understand that "fuzzy math."

So now you're probably thinking, "Oh, big deal, Marty's a Republican, of course he's going to endorse Rossi." Ah Contrail Me Homey! I, my friend, am a free thinker. I know that numbers don't always tell the whole story.
...

This is the kind of math that uneducated GOP'ers play with... Totally ignoring logic and making the math somehow end up in their favor.

"OK, I just bought one house. Add that to my existing 20 houses, and I now have 41 houses".

I can't send him something from work, but if anyone else wants to...

Can you ask him for me; If he's a "free thinker" he really oughta try and get his money back.

10. "I, my friend, am a free thinker."
Make that a non-thinker. This guy is obviously playing to his core audience, which is the lowest common denominator in the state. It's a shame that there are many people who will read his remarks and say "Yeah, he's right. Do they think we're stupid, or something?"

I do agree with one thing he said, however. Maybe they are a bunch of meth-smokin' rednecks in North Idaho.

14. Make him pass a math test
We need a No Pundit Left Behind Act. It would require media to test their writers/announcers (and reporters, etc.) to make sure they have mastered elementary English and math before printing or broadcasting their pieces. To avoid violating the First Amendment, we'd still let anyone write or say anything for free. But under the NPLBA, writers who couldn't pass the test wouldn't get paid. And, media would have to print or announce a disclaimer stating that the author/speaker could not pass the proficiency exam. After all, members of other professions have to be licensed and certified, why not pundits/journalists/announcers/writers. (Just joking.)

16. That is really worth taking home and framing.
So far the most ridiculous argument had been "Rossi won 2 of 3". This beats it hands down!

17. Someone as delusional as that who EVEN does math by the PARTY METHOD
(you know: Nazi, Commie, Bushevik, all the same)

will make a great Concentration Camp Guard.

If the Busheviks get their LIHOP #2 soon (and they will, you can make book on it), he may get his chance.

Otherwise, his grandchildren will serve THE PARTY or likely suffer (the details of the future are as murky as the trends are clear)

I don't know about all that fancy math you city-slickers use to confuse us rednecks in North Idaho.

How come we trust computers to do everything for we humans except count votes?

Thanks for reading, writing and teaching me math. Just don't try to teach me about self-deprecating humor or satire.

Marty
