Arianna Huffington: Fuck The Future
Apocalypse later

With nearly religious fervor, the Bush administration is mortgaging America's future into oblivion.

Jan. 13, 2005 | Near the beginning of "Saturday Night Fever," John Travolta's Tony Manero, frustrated that his boss thinks he should save his salary instead of spending it on a new disco shirt, cries out, "Fuck the future!" To which his boss replies: "No, Tony, you can't fuck the future. The future fucks you! It catches up with you and it fucks you if you ain't prepared for it!"

Well, I don't know if you've noticed, but America has morphed into a nation of Tony Maneros -- collectively dismissing the future. And nowhere is this mindset more prevalent than at the Bush White House, which is unwavering in its determination to ignore the future.

The evidence is overwhelming. Everywhere you look are IOUs passed on to future generations: Record federal debt. Record foreign debt. Record budget deficits. Record trade deficits.

And this attempt to "fuck the future" is not limited to economics. You see the same attitude when it comes to energy policy, healthcare, education, Social Security and especially the environment -- with the Bushies redoubling their efforts to make the world uninhabitable as fast as possible. (See their attempts to gut the Clean Air Act, gut the Clean Water Act, gut the Endangered Species Act, gut regulations limiting pollution from power plants.)

First daughter sticks her tongue out at reporters

The Associated Press
Updated: 10:20 a.m. ET July 21, 2004

WASHINGTON - When first lady Laura Bush counseled her twin daughters on how to behave while campaigning with their father, she may have skipped the part about not sticking your tongue out at the media.

That’s what Jenna Bush did Tuesday after President Bush arrived at St. Louis’ Lambert International Airport.

13. I understand your concern, but please don't insult our president ...
Using that kind of language may help you blow off steam, but it does not help the situation. Perhaps the deficit is high. That is not our president's fault. Even if you disagree with him, you have to admit, he like most of our leaders, have the best interests of the country at heart and are trying as hard as possible to accomplish very hard tasks. You may disagree with his policies, but even people who disagree with him who have met him have felt his warmth and concern for people and the country overall. You may not be a Christian, but knowing that he prays for the country at least suggests he is trying to do his best and what is best for the country.

So let's have a rational discussion, but at the same time, we are all Americans and have to pull together and support our president even if we disagree with him.

14. Say what????????????
Are you serious with this response? How does the fact he allegedly prays translate into trying to do his best for our country? Did you see where his administration admitted the search for WMD's is over?
I really, truly do not understand your apologist attitude towrd the man in the White House...........

15. I believe it's like buying kosher meat...
I'm not Jewish or Muslim, but I often buy kosher or halal meat. Why? Because I know that Jews and Muslims have very strict rules about slaughter methods and cleanliness, so my estimate is that kosher and halal meat is probably safer than regular meat.

It's the same with our president. You don't have to be a Christian to give him your special trust. Because he is a strong Christian and because he prays for our country on his knees every night, you can assume that he is especially committed to doing the right thing. It's a gut instinct thing, that you have to trust our president to do the right thing, based on his values.

The same with Ariana's so called arguments about the future. If our president was basically an amoral person, I might look at the budget numbers and worry. But we can assume he is trying at least to do the right thing. You can see it on his face.

I think we can all be progressive, democrats, even "dyed in the wool liberal" and still not be disrespectful to our president. We can disagree, but I don't think it's right to just say F you to our president when we know he is working so hard to do the right things.

19. Yes, Der Fuhrer was sent by God to purge Liberal Immorality
just like the last one...

And yes, his careworn features do resemble the last Fuhrer to decimate a Republic under the guise of being "Sent by God".

By the way, Tiberius Bunnypants* is NOT Our President, he is not President at all. Well maybe in the same way Idi Amin or Hafez Assad (and his kid Bashir) were.

He presides over the most corrupt and Totalitarian Regime to rule America since perhaps 1800, probably ever.

His "careworn features"...so noble...so sensitive. It is onl the cruelest of coincidences that his idea of "doing what's right" so often involves torture, murder, and mysterious assaults/accidents on political opponents.

Hey! Just like the LAST Fuhrer God Sent Earth!

16. lol
if you think the neoCONs got OUR 'best interests at heart' you are sadly misinformed... unless you think i am one of the elite.

i oppose this corrupt corporate fascist administration + everything it stands for and will until they are locked up or out of power.

these folks are behaving in the ME just like the imperial Japanese were in Asia during WWII and you want folks to support that

11. One thing Huffington did not say
I got this editorial from a friend. The one thing I noticed Huffington left out is that should the Pukes plan go afoul and there are succeeding generations - Thanks to NCLB American kids are not being trained to solve problems but to take standardized tests. Indian and Chinese children are being trained to solve problems though.

12. huffington is a typical "liberal" 'crat a la Clinton
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 11:53 PM by eg101
she is a bigtime clinton supporter, and supposed liberal of the free trade variety, the kind that set up the shipping overseas of all our jobs. Talking about fucking the future. Huffington and her ilk are just as good at it as bushco.
