Kerry drinking green tea proves he's out of touch....NOT!!!
CNN senior political correspondent Candy Crowley, in an attempt to portray Senator John Kerry as out-of-touch, suggested that green tea is a rare and exotic beverage unfamiliar to "most of America."

From an article in the November 16 edition of The Palm Beach Post:

During a luncheon speech Monday to the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, CNN political correspondent Candy Crowley shared an early memory from the campaign trail that may explain why John Kerry will not be president next year.

In January 2003, when his campaign was still young enough that Kerry would actually sit down with reporters in a relaxed setting, he and Crowley met for breakfast at the Holiday Inn in Dubuque, Iowa. "I'd like to start out with some green tea," Kerry told the waitress, who stared at him for a moment before responding, "We have Lipton's."

Lipton's would be fine, Kerry said, but the memory stayed with Crowley. "There were many green tea instances," she told the sell-out crowd of 450 at the Kravis Center's Cohen Pavilion. "There's a very large disconnect between the Washington politicians and most of America and how they live. Bush was able to bridge that gap, and Kerry was not."

5. They have GOT to stop...
...with this immature, superficial bullshit. God, I drink green tea every chance I get and I'm just a working stiff. Besides, it's been reported for YEARS now that green tea may play a part in preventing cancer. If the fucking yahoos don't know this, then fuck 'em. Let them drink Liptons.

6. This is the relevent bit:
"But green tea may not be quite the highbrow delicacy Crowley seems to think. In fact, Lipton itself makes more than a half-dozen different varieties of green tea. Lipton's website even reveals that green tea accounts for 20 percent of all tea produced. And, according to Lipton's product locator, you can buy green tea in Dubuque, Iowa, at that gourmet market known as ... Kmart.

So, who is the real out-of-touch elitist -- John Kerry, for drinking green tea, or Candy Crowley, for assuming that simple Iowa folk couldn't possibly be familiar with the beverage?"

I was craving some green tea, and in my cabinet I found ...

Yep, Lipton's green tea. Two flavors. While I realize that Pennsylvania is the hot bed of all that is chic ... there it was.

10. Jeeesus Christ
"Most Americans and how they live."

The west coast and east coast (I'd surmise, but I can only speak for the west coast) is very familiar with green tea. But I guess we aren't "most americans." Typical divisive neocon b.s.

I can't believe this woman gets paid big bucks to make such assinine analyses.

11. Several years ago, I was given a book
listing foods that help fight cancer (I had cancer at the time) and green tea was mentioned prominently. I have been drinking it since that time. I think Ms Crowley is out of tune with the times!

13. But if someone from Dubuque...
went to a cafe in N.Y. and didn't understand a waiter who offered something other than Lipton's, it would be OK for us to criticize him for being out of touch? Why is cultural lag in Dubuque inherently more noble than being aware of trends?

17. Better than diet coke with aspartame
Seems to be destroying the brain of Bush. His buddy Rummy rammed aspartame approval through the FDA. Rummy got his first ten million for that. It's a deadly poison. I'm a doctor's wife. See <www.dorway.com> And they wonder why so many kids are autistic etc. Sheesh!

"...Bush was able to bridge that gap, and Kerry was not."

Does this mean that * instead connected with 59 million non-green-tea-drinkin', beer-swillin', draft-dodgin', bobble-thumpin', NASCAR-dads, that don't know doodly-poop about green tea (and actually take anything Candy Crowley seriously)...?

Now I'm all confused again.

Isn't this the most divided the country has ever been?! How can a person beverage choice be something that alienates half the country?! I find the fact that Bush is bible thumper who talks to Jesus in the white House to be much MORE alienating that that fact John Kerry drinks green tea! That woman is a moron. :grr: :nuke:

I like great tea, and I'm a poor 18 year old! Yeah in fact I'm going to go make some right now! With milk (how British of me) :silly:

23. This story is exemplary in so many ways
of what is wrong with Campaign Coverage in the present day.

Trying to say that Kerry's implied 'elitism' is worse than the * regime's evil is just morally reprehensible and completely irresponsible.

Does it ever enter that fat skull that she should be pointing out, perhaps, issues that really have an impact on people , rather than pointed little digs like these that belittle the Candidate and trivialize the whole election process?

This Country is doomed unless we get a hard working, intelligent Press Corps again.

Reading that pice really sickened me!!
But seeing a picture of that fat miserable bitch nauseates me as well!

25. I have friends who drink green tea so
allow me this...one may expect to get a funny look when you are in Iowa and ask for green tea at a restaurant just like I get a funny look when I'm eating out at a steak house in Oxford and ask if they have anything vegetarian on the menu. And some people do think that you are somehow weird if you eat and drink different from them.

26. Green tea is good for patients with Prostate Cancer
Kerry was treated for prostate cancer. Green tea is recommended to help prevent recurrence because it is so high in anti oxidants (as are blueberries). Joe Torre of the Yankees drinks green tea in the dugout all the time- he also has had prostate cancer. I guess he;s just another east coast elitist too- and he has a foundation to help battered and abused women. What a girlie man.
