Tongues wag over Schwarzenegger's 1977 magazine interview
In the interview, Schwarzenegger, then 29, acknowledged using "grass and hash, -- no hard drugs." He described participating in group sex with a group of bodybuilders and a "black girl" at Gold's Gym in Venice (Los Angeles County), saying "having chicks around is the kind of thing that breaks up the intense training. It gives you relief, and then afterward you go back to the serious stuff."

And in a discussion of bodybuilders, he referred to gay people as "fags," saying, "I have absolutely no hang-ups about the fag business; though it may bother some bodybuilders, it doesn't affect me at all."

<snip>

When queried about the interview at a press conference Thursday in Fresno, Schwarzenegger said he could not remember it, repeating three times, "I have no idea what you're talking about."

<snip>

But only the night before, Sacramento radio station KFBK talk show host Mark Williams specifically asked Schwarzenegger about the Oui article, which had just been posted on the Internet.

According to an Associated Press account of the broadcast, Schwarzenegger responded:

(More!)

3. This is rich
Spokesman Rob Stutzman said he believed voters would understand that the old interview must be seen in context of the times and the world in which Schwarzenegger then worked.

"This is the bodybuilding world, and he's in the entertainment industry," he said. ". . . (Schwarzenegger) has said that if you go back in history, there are outrageous things he has said."

***************************

The GOP wasn't "understanding" of Clinton having eaten a marijuana brownie. Why should Californians be "understanding" of Arnie gang raping a woman and then talking about it later like she was yesterday's leftovers? His remarks remind me of those that were made by men in the Kosovo army who were accused of raping Muslim women. They said, "She is so ugly, I wouldn't park my bicycle next to her. Why would I want to fuck her?"

No, Mr. Stutzman, I don't "understand," and frankly, I'm repulsed by the fact that you do.

9. His remarks have probably improved his "guy" base immensely
Realizing the potential gold mine in male voter appeal over his lifestyle, he'll back-track and say he DOES remember after all, and claim he was ALSO at the Hells Angels "gang-bang" that was reported in one of Hunter S. Thompson's books...it was just a little something to take the edge off the copious amount of drugs in his system.

Considering US GOP culture these days, he's the perfect man for the job.

My only question is, why is Maria married to him?

2. Double standard?
Bill Clinton got hammered when he admitted that he smoked pot(although he handled it wrong imo), so it will be interesting to see if Schwarznegger gets the same treatment. Somehow I doubt it. I realize that President of the United States is more important than Governor of California, but the recall is getting national attention and reporters should apply a truly fair and balanced approach to this matter. Personally, I don't care if a candidate used pot in his or her youth, as long as they come clean about it and as long as the press treats it the same for everybody.

4. Heck...
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 02:13 PM by w13rd0
...I don't care if a politician smokes dope while in office, as long as he's not pushing to jail those that do likewise. Hell, in many cases, a hit on the hooka might mellow some of these chickenchimp mofos out...

That reminds me...would there be anything funnier than Cheney on a really heavy dose of LSD? Or Rumsfeld caught in a K-Hole?

10. Ha! Arnie's acting career is a failure! Check it out...
In that Oui article he said:

"... the one thing that won't work on the screen is my being an ass-kicker. If Robert De Niro kills in Taxi Driver it's perfect, because he's a little guy and people are 100 percent behind him. For me, that isn't the right kind of role, because I'm big and therefore I have to play the opposite kind of guy. When you build a career, you should never imitate anybody. If there's one thing I ought to do, it's the unexpected. Whether its The Killers or something else, I probably should play the victim."

Well, there you go. Arnie is an imitator, who failed in his acting career.

15. The big S and dope
It does not bother me if they all smoke pot; might be good for Asscroft, but S's (I refuse to type that long name) treatment of and attitude toward women is unacceptable. We cannot have that type of mentality in power. I cannot believe Californians would sanction such behavior.

16. Rape
To the person who thinks it is not rape, just consentual group sex, the only person heard from was Arnold, you have no idea how the unfortunate woman got into the situation.

17. True, but you have no evidence otherwise...
Rape is such a heinous crime it does nobody any favours if the term is flung around without any regard for the weight it carries.

As far as I am aware, nobody has ever suggested that in that particular incident (which only S himself has brought up) there was a suggestion of rape.

Basically, I find it odd to make the assumption that it was rape without any real basis for that assumption. I'd assume otherwise until someone gives me a reason not to.
