I get just downright giddy reading stuff like this...
http://www.elitestv.com/news/pub/2004/Jul/EEN4109455bbeb80.htmlThe "liberal" media might actually be starting to wake up a bit. Hey, even if it's woefully late, and it's certainly nothing that's taken hold in the mainstream yet, there is hope!
<snip>
People have said that Moore’s attempt to show the movie was politically motivated. I don’t think so. I think he, as a filmmaker, wants as many people as possible to see his movie. Politics are not the issue. The issue is the fact that the theaters near Bush’s ranch in Crawford are NOT showing the movie (One theater began showing the film last Friday in nearby Waco…why so late?) So, Moore figured he’d bring it to THEM. How convenient, huh?
Well, shock of all shocks, people in Texas still weren’t very receptive to Mr. Moore. In fact, here is how one Crawford-ian put it, according to the AP:
'I personally think we're just a little town, and it's kind of an invasion in our small town,' said Fran Shelton, whose family owns the Crawford Coffee Station. 'Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I'd be happier if he didn't bring it to Crawford.'
Umm…Fran? Did I miss something? Bring what to Texas? Ebola? The PLAGUE? WHAT do you so desperately NOT want him to bring to Crawford, Texas?
A movie? Really? Are you THAT scared of a movie? Why? Because it might show you something you really DON’T want to see/believe?
I am not saying that I disagree with a theater’s right to show, or not show, a movie based on a business (or otherwise) decision (If I were a theater owner, I sure wouldn’t want a $100 Million movie playing in my theater!). But what about the outright closed-minded responses by this woman, millions of others and the PRESIDENT himself!
To be fair to Mr. Bush, I would HOPE the President has better things to do (on his vacation) than watch movies, so I don’t blame him for not going. (Something tells me if a pro-Bush documentary were made, he would have shared a sleeping bag in line with Rush Limbaugh to get tickets to see it, but I am not a fortune teller so don’t quote me on that.) That’s not my complaint.
My complaint is directed toward all the other Bush cronies who blast this movie without seeing it (and blast all defectors from the Bush dictatorship without hearing them out).
Shame on you!
