Petraeus's CIA Steers Obama On Policy by Robert Parry (10-20-11 Consortium News)
"President Barack Obama may have thought appointing David Petraeus as CIA director was a political masterstroke, keeping the ambitious ex-general inside the tent.

But Petraeus's close ties with the neocons may now be undercutting Obama's policy goals..."

13. can there be any doubt until we see the top execs of top Wall Street firms in prison for life?
They have done far worse damage than any terrorist could, and evidence is already in the congressional record that they knowingly lied to most investors for the benefit of a select few.

At least most terrorists have a figleaf of misplaced ideology to hide behind. These guys destroyed us for naked greed--and rather than being punished, they are still calling the shots.

5. All we need to know is Max Boot and Fred Kagan are back on the scene...
(I suspect Obama appointed Petraeus because he was told to, or believed in the Neo Con policies in the first place if these NeoCon thugs are hanging around) :-(

Morell also knew that Petraeus had bristled at the CIA’s gloomier assessments of Afghan War progress while then-Gen. Petraeus was pushing a rosier analysis with the help of his influential neocon friends, such as Max Boot of the Council on Foreign Relations and Frederick Kagan of the American Enterprise Institute.

-------------

In 2009, Petraeus granted Boot and Kagan extraordinary access to U.S. field commanders, and the pair returned home with glowing reports of Afghan War progress – if only President Barack Obama would send more troops. It doesn’t take a seasoned yes man like Morell to know which way the wind is now blowing at CIA headquarters.

While acknowledging that more military input would be injected into the CIA’s analytical process, Petraeus told CIA employees that “the change will in no way undermine the objectivity of DI analysis on the war in Afghanistan. We will still ‘call it like we see it,’ but now with even better ground truth.”

8. I did a "wade through" of that report by them....
Edited on Tue Oct-25-11 07:25 PM by KoKo
and actually found it "cautionary" about how we move forward..in their "Think Tank...Geeky Speak."

It seemed to me after their histronics they did a thoughtful rehash of what the Military needs to think about going forward.

I tend to be an "optimist" always looking for "forward thinking stuff" so ...it might be I read them wrongly...but, I felt (getting through their "turn off" of 'fire ants and weapons against citizens" plus.. amd other creepy new weapons under development) that the two of them were actually, at the end of their research, laying out the darkest of scenarios and trying to put forward some new thoughts. Although much of their proposals seemed to be cybewars and Pscho-Disinfo...I felt that they felt that was a last resort.

Howevr...it's a frightening read to see how "Think Tanks" and others move to Manipulate our Minds and try to opt for the Military against "THE PEOPLE!"

Thanks so much for that post and hopefully folks who read this will Bookmark to read on the weekend to see what our Military Industrial Complex is proposing going forward for our Troops.

But, as I said, they seemed a calmer voice to me (in my read) than the PNAC who want to NUKE EVERYONE.

But, then...as i said, I tend to be more hopeful and innocent sometimes...even though the reality fights me me about how we've been manipulated through the Cold War and going forward.

Thanks!

22. Looks like the RMA went forward:
"RMA is characterized by four types of changes:
• extremely precise, stand-off strikes;
• dramatically improved command, control, and intelligence;
• information warfare; and
• nonlethality.
Analysts see a number of benefits from harnessing the current revolution in military affairs and using it to build 21st century U.S. armed forces:
• rejuvenating the political utility of military power;"

I would say we are in the middle of an information warefare and Julian Assange and other groups like Anonymous are helping highlight this issue...

7. For some reason used car salesman and Iranian Spy give me flashbacks of Achmed Chalabi.

The FBI’s amended criminal complaint also lacks any direct evidence that the Iranian government approved the plot, and the case boils down to the word of Iranian-American used-car salesman Mansour Arbabsiar and an unidentified paid informant of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Arbabsiar, who agreed – right after his arrest – to become a cooperating FBI witness, presumably in exchange for lenient treatment,
is one of the two people charged in the purported plot. The other is Arbabsiar’s supposed contact in Iran, Gholam Shakuri, allegedly a Quds operative.

(snip)

But there also remain curious omissions in what has so far been made public about the case against Iran. For instance, after the FBI detained car salesman Arbabsiar, he was told to place pretext calls to Shakuri seeking to implicate him more directly in the plot.

According to the FBI complaint, the two men discussed a “Chevrolet” purchase supposedly being negotiated with Mexican underworld figures. FBI Special Agent O. Robert Woloszyn said he understood from Arbabsiar that “Chevrolet” was the code word for the assassination, but nothing in the conversation addresses any specifics of a murder plot.

We have a saying Tennessee, fool me a fool...ahh a fool can't get fooled again, or something like that.

Thanks for the thread, bobthedrummer.
