Obama: 'If you love me, you've got to help me pass this bill."
From AddictingInfo: Obama Declares ‘National Emergency’ over Jobs, Makes Unscripted Plea to Supporters
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/09/14/obama-declares-national-emergency-over-jobs-makes-unscripted-plea-to-supporters/

On the heels of the news that 46.2 million Americans are living in poverty – the most since 1959 – Obama has rolled up his sleeves and thrown his shoulder into the proverbial wheel to drum up popular support for the American Jobs Act, which economists predict will add nearly 2 million jobs and grow the economy by 2 percent.

Let’s not understate the President’s push: Obama’s on the road really busting his a** to push the recalcitrant Congress into passing the American Jobs Act in a hurry. And he needs your help.

At North Carolina State University on Wednesday, the President declared the persistent unemployment rate a “national emergency” and pleaded with Americans to “kick off our bedroom slippers and put on our marching shoes” to force our representatives to action.

In an unscripted moment, a voice shouted from the crowd “I love you, Barack!” The President replied:

"I love you back. But if you love me you’ve got to help me pass this bill…It starts with your help."

6. EXACTLY!
Even the Teabag Reptilicans seem to be inured to the idea of an Obama win in 2012. But if we want to see Obama govern like FDR from then on, give him an FDR-like legislative LANDSLIDE! Without that, what can he do? Govern by Presidential Decree?

4. What if I do not like parts of the bill??
I feel the payroll tax cuts are a huge mistake, it opens the door to change SS drastically.
The three free trade agreements I do not feel will add jobs and as far as Panama is concerned it opens up a door for hiding cash for the wealthy.

5. Maybe it would help to have a different perspective on that -
back in the 80's was the last time SS was in need of "adjustment" or strengthening, because the fund was projected to go into deficit within 20 years or so. There were two ways to do it - raise the payroll tax cap, so working people with 100K+ of income paid a bigger share, or raise the payroll tax rate, so working people below 100K of income paid a bigger share.

Reagan raised the payroll tax rate, shifting the tax burden to those making less. It strengthened the program and kept the fund up, but essentially it was a very regressive change.

Right now, the fund is fine for 25 years or so, and Obama wants to do two things - lower the payroll tax, which is a good progressive change, and raise the tax cap to make up the difference. There's enough leeway to do the first now, then do the second by the end of the decade if we can get majorities in congress. If we can't elect good people to congress, there's not a lot of hope for the country anyway...

7. Except the 2% is still being paid into SS from the general fund
and 9 years is a long time in DC

I was aware of what raygun did and then congress went in and borrowed the money to pay for other things
instead of raising taxes or cut spending

And all I see is a slippery slope for this country and no one is standing in the way

8. Electing republicans and expecting good government...
I see too many people with the whole wrong idea. But it does wind up with the same slippery slope.

Our party did plenty of not-so-bright things in the last decade as well, but all you can do is begin from where you are. The best outcome for SS as far as soundness and positive effect on income inequality would result from electing a democratic majority to congress, lowering the payroll tax, and raising the cap.

10. This is the difference between Teabaggers & real Americans.
Real Americans call out "I love you!" to the speakers at a political rally. Teabaggers call out "Let him die!"
