Dearest Mother,
Yesterday was a lovely day for you. The sun was out and the trees had just put on their spring outfit of green. I thought about you during the day and wished I could have been with you. I wanted to remember you with something but I could not find anything good enough for you. There just isn't anything. I would have sent you a check to do with as you chose, but I know you would have paid back bills with it. I'll have something to give you when you get up here for my graduation that may suit.
A year ago you were at Clemson for Military Day. It only seems like a day or two ago. A lot has happened since then and there is plenty more to happen too. Just a little longer and you will be up here to see your little boy really grow up. I hope everything will go as planned. My instructor told me not to worry any longer. We are as good as finished. Only 25 more hours to go.
Well, Mother, just remember that every day is your day with me.
Give my love to all.
Your devoted son,
Jake
