Atwood is a prize in library union’s contest
It’s the dream date Councillor Doug Ford has never once dreamed about: lunch and a “literary-themed outing” with Margaret Atwood.

The Toronto Public Library Workers Union is holding an essay and video contest called “Why My Library Matters to Me.” Those who express their ardour most creatively, originally and persuasively will get to hang out, in groups of five, with either Atwood or another Canadian author.

The other prizes: Michael Ondaatje, Vincent Lam, Linwood Barclay, Anna Porter, Joy Fielding, Judy Fong Bates, Sylvia Fraser, Robert Rotenberg and Susan Swan.

“There will be a literary tour of something that is significant to the author, either in respect to a scene from one of their books that’s set in Toronto or something that’s contributed to their writing,” said union president Maureen O’Reilly. “It could be their home; where they do their writing; it could be a special place that inspires them. It’s up to the authors.”
