This is a republic, not the Vatican
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/opinion/2011/0721/1224301061733.html

THE REVELATIONS of the Cloyne report have brought the Government, Irish Catholics and the Vatican to an unprecedented juncture. It’s fair to say that after the Ryan and Murphy reports Ireland is, perhaps, unshockable when it comes to the abuse of children.

But Cloyne has proved to be of a different order.

Because for the first time in Ireland, a report into child sexual abuse exposes an attempt by the Holy See, to frustrate an inquiry in a sovereign, democratic republic – as little as three years ago, not three decades ago.

And in doing so, the Cloyne report excavates the dysfunction, disconnection, elitism – the narcissism – that dominate the culture of the Vatican to this day. The rape and torture of children were downplayed or “managed” to uphold instead, the primacy of the institution, its power, standing and “reputation”.

5. i would guess perception of anti-catholic bias.
but the taoseich is a devout practicing catholic.

there is some reluctance to come to grips w/ reality w/in the faith community when
the subject is this brutal.

but it is a part of our{faith community} story & we won't heal if we don't embrace it.

11. Dublin Archdiocese close to financial collapse
DUBLIN’S CATHOLIC archdiocese is trying to avoid possible “financial collapse” due to falling donations and abuse payouts, an internal document has shown. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0818/1224302639519.html

Looks like Irish Catholics are voting with their feet. Cloyne Dioceses also under financial pressure.

10. Ratzinger will respond in the only way he knows!
Kenny's speech was the most unlikely event ever to happen in Ireland - but then again, Kenny is the most unlikely person EVER to hold the Taoiseach's office.

This is a pic of Eamon De Valera kissing Archbishop McQuaid's ring

That's an Irish Republican hero on bended knee to a guy who had deep knowledge of the perverted clergy in the Dublin Diocese - clergy who were harming the most innocent of all. You'll not see Enda Kenny kissing any rings!

And this will be the Pope's response:
