in other words, they're comparing true COSTS of of other things, such as the wars, etc., to some MIX of costs, losses, and LENDING -- some of which has already been returned, and some of which will still be returned. not all of it, of course, but the point is:

this is a false comparison, apples to oranges.


given that the amounts involved are staggering even if presented honestly, and so the point remains the same, it never ceases to amaze me that people don't bother to get it right. i mean, why lie with statistics when the truth achieves the same effect?
