N.C. outsourcing deal leads to IT layoffs
Indian based offshore firm HCL wins outsourcing contract from Dex One; 30% of IT staff will be cut, reports say

June 3, 2011 01:27 PM ET

A North Carolina company plans to lay off some IT workers after signing an outsourcing deal with an Indian services firm.

Cary, N.C.-based Dex One -- a maker of yellow pages print directories, an operator of an ad network, and a provider of search tools and other products -- said Thursday that it has hired HCL Technologies "to accelerate delivery of new digital offerings while reducing operational costs."

A local newspaper, The News & Observer, reported that Dex One plans to eliminate about 30% of its IT staff. About one in five of the laid-off employees will be rehired by HCL, the newspaper reported.

The current size of the Dex One IT staff wasn't disclosed.

3. What was the news yesterday? Wallstreet taking a nosedive because of bad
job numbers? Are they too fugging stupid to see that the right hand holding the knife to their neck is their own?

4. Soon nearly all manufacturing will be in China and IT jobs in India
But on the positive side there's tens of thousands of $8 - $10 an hour service sector jobs being created every month.

5. I got laid off this past March
It is *not* pretty out there. I was in the same position in GSO for a little over nine years, then one day, bam.

Every day now, it's the same, look/search/hunt/apply/spend time on the phone.

When will corporations realize that their data is a corporate asset. Once they outsource care of it, they have no idea in hell where it is, who's poking into it, or what they'll use it for once they've got it. Many of those outsourcing companies overseas state in the fine print that they may use YOUR data for "other purposes". Believe me, those overseas companies don't give a damn about your privacy or your company's privacy, either.

But, ah-oh-well, I've tried to preach for decades, watching company after company get done-in by outsourcing. The MBA types never listen. They just move on to destroy more companies and pocket the change.

6. And here is the shitty job they do
Edited on Sat Jun-04-11 11:49 AM by XanaDUer
at my last decent job, which I got laid off from, once a week we'd get a call from someone from India, saying they worked for the yellow-pages something-or-other, and to please verify our phone number and physical address. This went on for months. I and the other person, and we both were super b usy and didn't have time for this weekly crappola, finally started saying, "You called us a zillion times about this. Aren't you making note of this information we've given you about thirty times?" Which would then throw them off their script, which also could be hilarious.

We weren't abusive, but really wanted to know why they keep calling over and over and over and over to get this simple info they could have googled, fer Christ's sakes. So, who knows?

My thoughts go out to those who have been laid off. It is going to get ugly very fast out there in the land of the working American.

EDIT: We started hanging up on them when they called.

8. Basically, they think Americans don't have the right
to earn a decent middle class salary, especially if it interferes with corporate PROFITS.
