Small part of brain itching for a fight
A cluster of nerve cells have founded their own tiny fight club. These cells, nestled deep in a primitive part of the brain, compel mice to aggressively maul not just intruder males, but also females and blown-up rubber gloves, a study finds. What’s more, the fight cells have an intertwined and thorny relationship with nearby “mate” cells, a discovery that may shed light on human sexual violence.

“This is absolutely awesome,” says neuroscientist Newton Canteras of the University of São Paulo, who was not involved in the study. “They were able to pinpoint one tiny region in the hypothalamus that is responsible for the aggressive response.”

The research, led by Dayu Lin of Caltech, who is now at New York University, was published in the Feb. 10 Nature.

Earlier studies had pointed to the hypothalamus, an almond-sized structure important for hunger, thirst and body temperature, as an aggression center in the brain. Electrical stimulation there made cats and rats attack targets. But researchers didn’t have a clear idea of where in the hypothalamus the fight neurons reside.

1. Absolutly awesome is right!
A little ablative surgery, and bingo, aggressive behavior gone and no more prisons. This would free up all kinds of monies for education.

And maybe even, who knows, a big wonderful tribe of peace-niks cavorting with flowers and Mother Nature? This would avert the species extinction disaster looming before an aggressive and emotional species gone haywire from cupidity.

3. You didn't spend a whole lot of time thinking of the implications/consequences of your proposal.
Imagine a nation of permanently docile, compliant slaves. Then imagine the U.S.. But I repeat myself.

2. Eduction is a luxury.. gawd intended it only for the RICH!
In the 60s & 70s,
anyone could attend the State University and graduate DEBT FREE if willing to work a part-time job.
That was The NORM, not the exception.

America could have that again,
IF the Working Class & The Poor had a political party that represented them.
The lower 98% have ZERO representation in Washington, in either political party.

The Republicans & the "Centrist" Democrats have turned Education into a For Profit scam
New and Improved Gilded Age 2.0, here we come!
Its going to be wonderful.......for the very RICH.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans.
I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."
---Paul Wellstone

"By their works you will know them."
