Sarah Palin is a soap opera, says Ron Reagan
Son of the former president speaks out about Palin's scheduled speech at a birthday tribute to his father
By Michelle Fitzsimmons

Sarah Palin is scheduled to speak at a tribute to former President Ronald Reagan today, whose 100th birthday would have been this Sunday.

Not all are fans of the governor turned vice-presidential candidate, most notably Reagan's son, Ron Reagan. He told the Associated Press that he sees nothing in common between his father and Palin.

Sarah Palin is a soap opera, basically. She's doing mostly what she does to make money and keep her name in the news. She is not a serious candidate for president and never has been.

Reagan's former speechwriter, Kenneth Khachigian, praised the choice of Palin to honor the 40th president, saying Palin's philosophy and political fortunes were shaped by the Reagan presidency. "She can reflect on that as well as anyone could," he said.

1. My understanding is she is invited to a side event by a group
hosting her and not to the official Reagan library events. I think Nancy thinks as poorly of the grizzled grifter as Ron.

9. Ask and Ye shall receive
In 1995, Watt was indicted on 25 counts of felony perjury and obstruction of justice by a federal grand jury. The indictments were due to false statements made to a grand jury investigating influence peddling at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which he had lobbied in the mid to late 1980s. On January 2, 1996, as part of a plea bargain, Watt pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of withholding documents from a federal grand jury. On March 12, 1996 he was sentenced to five years' probation and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and perform 500 hours of community service.

During a March 1991 dinner event organized by the Green River Cattlemen's Association in Wyoming, Watt said, "If the troubles from environmentalists cannot be solved in the jury box or at the ballot box, perhaps the cartridge box should be used."

8. Yep, I remember that
And that Reagan wanted to do away with the Dept.of Education. His administration also referred to students as "productive human capital". I couldn't stand the guy. Ron is head and shoulders above his dad.
