The United States has given tens of billions of dollars in military aid to Egypt over the last decades. We speak with William Hartung, author of Prophets of War: Lockheed Martin and the Making of the Military-Industrial Complex, and Samer Shehata, assistant professor of Arab politics at Georgetown University.

1. Egypt used to use Soviet made military hardware, as did many Arabic states. They made the change
to our stuff some time ago.

2. We give them about a billion dollars per year, they spend most of it buying stuff from us
It keeps a lot of Americans employed.

3. Has Egypt been at war with someone for the past two decades or do we just
prime the pump hoping something will start flowing sooner or later?

4. I guess the answer they would give to us is that this expenditure is keeping the ME Secure
...it's for Stability in the Middle East. Beyond that...well..we all know that there's more. But, that's the "explanation" we are told to accept.

8. That's A Fact, Jack/Fuddnik
People think "aid to Egypt" means cash payments. Actually the majority of it means Americans buying locally made defense material for Egypt's use.
