Where the Jobs Are (Hint: they’re not where the workers are).
Source: NewsWeek

... A new report by London-based Capital Economics says that supply problems—the workers who need jobs are in the wrong states, and the wrong fields—could be responsible for nearly a third of America’s unemployment rate.

In most recessions over the last half century, job losses were broadly spread throughout the economy. This time three fields—construction, manufacturing (particularly in the automotive sector), and finance—have been hit much harder than others. Meanwhile, other sectors of the economy are growing strongly—including health and education—but they can’t find enough workers, in part because wages have historically been too low to attract new talent...

Where I live in California unemployment is nearly 13% North Dakota needs workers, but no one wants to move.

As the story says, most new jobs involve a pay cut.

1. I took a wage cut when I got the hell out of Boston
but I also took a large cost of living cut as everything out in New Mexico except prepared food was cheaper. It was a really good deal, even though it was a 25% cut, a hefty one.

Real cost of living has to be looked at when relocating for a job. That higher paycheck on both coasts is just not going to go as far as a lower paycheck in the interior.

Still, I don't think I'd move to North Dakota for New York City wages. I'm just too old for those winters.

2. Try selling your house
If you live in California and own a house you also need to find a buyer for the house so you can afford to move
There are no buyers, so you're stuck

Moving is not that easy

6. Over 50 ? Need Not Apply
You cost too much for health insurance. You have more workman's Comp Claims.
You actually know your ass from a hole in the ground too, so you are inconvenient for all the 30-something fucking know-it- all managers.

They would rather hire young fuck-ups.
