Angle: Her campaign is ‘God’s calling’

Angle: Her campaign is ‘God’s calling’
By MICHAEL R. BLOOD

http://www.capitolhillblue.com/node/29692

Republican Sharron Angle says her campaign to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada is “a calling” from God and that her faith is helping her endure a fiercely competitive race in which Democrats have depicted her as a conservative extremist.

“When you have God in your life … he directs your path,” Angle told the Christian Broadcasting Network in an interview posted on its website Wednesday.

Asked why she entered the race, Angle said “the reason is a calling.”

“When God calls you he also equips you and He doesn’t just say, ‘Well today you’re going to run against Harry Reid,’” the tea party favorite said.

In the Bible “Moses has his preparatory time. Paul had his preparatory time. Even Jesus had his preparatory time,” the former legislator said, citing her years in public office as her preparation for the race.

“God knew all of this in advance,” Angle added. “I don’t know what’s coming up tomorrow but I do know that He is there. He saw it and that He has provided a way of escape and a way for me to endure.”

In a wide-ranging interview, Angle said her media appearances are guided by the need to raise money for her campaign and she defended an overhaul of her campaign website in which many of her earlier positions on Social Security and other issues were rewritten, condensed or deleted.

Angle, a Southern Baptist, has called herself a faith-based politician who prays daily. Among her positions, she opposes abortion in all circumstances, including rape and incest.

Since her come-from-behind victory in the June 8 primary, Angle has appeared largely on conservative media outlets. She said her public schedule is being driven by the need to raise money and she gets the best return for her time on conservative programs, which drive up donations.

“The whole point of an interview is to … earn something with it and I’m not going to earn anything from people who are there to badger me and use my words to batter me with,” she said.

In mainstream media outlets “there’s no earnings for me there,” she added.

Asked about the retooling of her website, she said she was advised by consultants to condense the long-running text on her site. Reid’s campaign later posted the website’s original language.

“I am pretty wordy,” Angle said. “We’re still working on those precise statements.”

Meanwhile, Angle is airing her first TV ad of the fall campaign — a scathing attack on Reid’s record on jobs in a state with a U.S.-leading 14 percent unemployment rate.

Ominous, dirge-like music plays in the 30-second as a black-and-white photograph of a grim-faced Reid and images of shuttered factories and shuffling workers appear. Text in the ad points out that unemployment in the state has risen nearly 10 percentage points since Reid became majority leader.

Reid launched a new ad statewide Wednesday that takes Angle to task for saying she would not have stepped in to save a major construction project in Las Vegas, CityCenter. Reid is credited with pressuring banks and saving the project when its financing was at risk. “She wouldn’t have lifted a finger,” the ad says. Angle has said Reid’s move cost jobs elsewhere in the city.

12. I disagree!
America is extremely religious and that kind of supernatural babble appeals to more folks than you think!

If it were not for the Republicans using religion stating in the 80's they would not have won many elections sinthen...The religious babble puts them over the top in most elections since the 80's.

They have become so empowered they are literally rewriting American History not just in Texas but on Talk Radio and FOX "News".

Scary Stuff!!

13. Perhaps.. but it turns off alot of folks too
Sure America is religious but to claim she has some sort of calling from God to win this election is a bit too much.

17. What Angle said is nothing compared to...
Bush saying god told him to go into Iraq...And he got reelected. Sarah Palin was nearly elected after all the bat shit crazy stuff she has said and that was at a time when Republicans were hated by Republicans!. And she still might get elected in 2012.

Yeah, supernatural babble is a turn off to many but that "many" is a small minority! A majority like to hear it and many others just ignore it. Only a small minority see it as FUCKING CRAZY!

2. I personally don't question her faith or beliefs.
That is not the problem.

The problem is when she says this.

Text in the ad points out that unemployment in the state has risen nearly 10 percentage points since Reid became majority leader.

Why is the unemployment higher? Is it because jobs have been shipped overseas? Or because the central planning in the private sector wants to hurt the economy? Or has not adjusted to factors of higher production.

The problem is that she is assigning the problems to areas where they are not. Explain how her policies would create jobs. Explain how job loses are caused by the democrats. She could say it is all part of some plan, but then she has to say that it does not matter if people do good or bad, or if we support good or bad, since everyone is part of some plan. It is part of all puppets, or no free will doctrine that there is not also free will.

I do agree God has a plan, but I think he is powerful enough to do that with us having free will also, meaning that when things go wrong it is not just someone as part of God's plan, but also someone that chose to do something, just like when things go right.

I think that is the most frustrating part, when people say that God plans bad things. I think he loves us enough to give us free will, even when we use it unwisely and sometimes do harm. And he also tries to show us what is better and worse, so we can improve. But we still have free will to be part of better or worse things.

It may be part of God's plan, but I think he uses people that want to be part of better ideas, and it is possible that if someone is going to do bad, he might influence were they are also, but that does not mean doing bad is no different then trying to do good.

But anyways, what caused the deficit, what causes the unemployment. And is her statements honest about those things. Does she also understand the concepts of unregulated capitalism. I don't disagree that some jobs overseas is a good thing, but it also has to be accompanied by us learning to change our system to make up for more production then demand.

3. I hadn't heard much at all about Angle until this year.
Ignorance is bliss, because she really does seem to be a full-blown nutbag.

6. You're really not supposed to copy entire articles like this.
It's against the rules here, and against the spirit of fair use.

Otherwise, this woman is a complete loon. I love it when conservative extremists complain that "Democrats have depicted her as a conservative extremist."

8. So is God on Reid's side too?
Or is God selective? From what I hear Harry is very devote too. So is it different Gods or does God play favorites?

9. Any politician who believes that s/he is following "God's calling,"
is anathema to me.

Regardless of party label or the particular version of "God" in question.

Period.

11. 'S'what I say. If someone talks to G'd, that's "praying"...
if G'd talks to you, that's called "insanity".

Not for nothin', "Hezbollah" also translates to "Party of G'd". From where I sit, one fundy looks, acts, and sounds just as batshit as the next, no matter which "god" they claim to be killing for.

Evil is evil, crazy is crazy, and it takes wacko religion to meld evil and crazy together to claim self-justification for greed and slaughter then to blame it on someone who isn't there. It's a coward's way out of taking any responsibility for their own evil. Palin, Bachmann, Angle, Coburn, McConnell, the Orange Boner, Sessions, Vitter, Sphinctorum, the whole sorry lot of them... they're all pretty-much evil, batshit, and a waste of plasm.

10. another charlatan
Anyone who claims their quest is "God's calling" is dangerous. If they truly believe it, they are delusional. If you disagree with them, you are "against God." A claim like that should be all that any rational person needs to vote against them.

No doubt some Jeezoid droolers out there will lap this up. I can only hope it is a very small minority.
