Media falsely suggest gov't is ignoring Louisiana barrier plan - MediaMatters
http://mediamatters.org/research/201005270020

In claiming that the Gulf oil spill is "Obama's Katrina," media figures and outlets have falsely suggested that the federal government has been unresponsive to Louisiana's request for a permit to create sand barriers -- or "berms" -- around the coast. But, as required by law, the Army Corps of Engineers has been studying the plan's impacts and reportedly responded with concerns that it could push oil into Mississippi; and, numerous experts have questioned whether the plan would even be effective.

...another matter, it would take months to build such a barrier. __JW

1. A sand berm would wash away as quickly as a sand castle.
Ever see what high tide does to a sand castle on the beach?

Bobby Jindal and the othe GOPers who demand this approach as a way to save the beaches and wetlands were just looking for something --anything-- to demand, so they can say that Obama has failed to act.

2. Dummies
the berm(s) will restrict shoreline flushing and nutrient flow further impairing benthic invertebrate community recovery, thus negatively impact fish and invertebrate food sources. One hurricane would wash the entire berm away.
