E.J. Dionne: The Hidden Issue of 2010
from Truthdig:

The Hidden Issue of 2010
Posted on Feb 3, 2010

By E.J. Dionne

Vice President Joe Biden is tired of seeing the Obama administration’s economic stimulus plan demeaned, derided and dismissed, and he wanted to talk about it.

But a funny thing happened in the course of an interview at Biden’s White House office on Tuesday afternoon. The vice president’s passions poured forth not when he was offering his point-by-point defense of the economic recovery plan but on the question of whether the United States is in decline.

Late in the conversation, I asked Biden about the surprise applause line in President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech—“I do not accept second place for the United States of America.” Will we hear more on the America-as-No.-1 theme?

What followed was a torrent, in red, white and blue.

“From me you’re going to hear more,” he replied emphatically. “I want to tell you something, because if we cede the ground to those who suggest that—I don’t mean foreigners, I mean domestic critics—that somehow, we are destined to fulfill Kennedy’s prophecy that we are going to be a great nation that has failed because we lost control of our economy and overextended, then we might as well throw it in now, for God’s sake. I mean it’s ridiculous.” ..........(more)

1. USA is Number One
I don't subscribe to the meme that the USA has to be superior to all other nations on all counts - other people deserve to lead good productive happy lives also.

but, for those that want to "keep" the USA Number One, the primary component that allows such a collective accomplishment to happen is OUR FREEDOMS!

We aren't going to be number One in anything but oppression if we continue our course to becoming a full blown totalitarian fascist police state.

For example - how the hell is the January 21 Supreme Corporation ruling supposed to do anything to make us great? All that's going to do is concentrate even more power into the hands of the sociopathic elites!

Restore our Constitution to it's original condition and intent, and we'll go out and get some more number ones.

Can't we just be good citizens of the World and assume our rightful place in the effort to make life better for every one on earth?

Isn't that job one for all Countries and Governments in the World?

-90% jimmy
