HOW many people oppose HCR because of abortion?.....3% - PEW Research Center poll

Despite the intensity of recent debates over abortion coverage in health care legislation, relatively few Americans say they oppose the bills before Congress because of the issue.

Only three percent of Americans raised the issue of government-funded abortions as the main reason why they oppose the health proposals currently before Congress, according to a new Pew Research Center survey that allowed for open-ended responses.

1. But that other 97% does not fund election campaigns as well or scream as loudly as those who do.
The squeaky door gets oiled....sad thing sometimes..

3. Republicans are using anything they can as an IED under the Health Care Reform train.
It's a hand puppet show. the Corporate Lobbyist Party shapes the puppet with their hands and M$M shines the right light on it to make it seem ten times bigger on the wall. "OH MAN, it's movement."

Like Fox News using footage of a Glenn Beck party from a few months ago to make it look like there was a much bigger response to a FOX network promoted gathering against something .. Health Care ..whatever the latest sensible effort the Democrats are undertaking to improve our society, our economoy, our lives .. that's what the Party of Nonsense and it's Public Relations arm, FOX News committed to killing - can't have Obama succeed with anything.

10. Unfortunately, I can speak from experience. The Republican party has been so good at
convincing so many to vote against their own self interest (and that of the country, I would now contend).

I was one of the many suckers for the GOP. It took a long time before I woke up from my long stupor.

2. Intensity wins unfortunately.
As one reporter commented those who do not want HIR are
far more intense than those who want reforms.

4. A majority supported segregation not that long ago!
Considering how uninformed and confused the American people are, I tend to distrust public opinion polls not on account of what they disclose, but on how much weight we must give to the opinions reflected in the samplings.

Interesting the comments captured by Pew Research:

Though abortion coverage may not be the main reason why Americans oppose the proposals, Pew noted that 56 percent of health reform opponents cite the abortion issue as one of the major factors for their disapproval. Even so, the abortion issue ranked below other major reasons including coverage for illegal immigrants (67 percent).

Of the religious groups polled, evangelical Protestants (74 percent) and white Catholics (72 percent) were particularly likely to say abortion funding was a major reason for their opposition. However, these groups also cited the expansion of government involvement as a major factor.

YOu say you distrust polls because of: " how much weight we must give to the opinions reflected in the samplings."

Polling if it's done by a legitimate group, tries to get a sample of people which represents the populaation in general. What alternative to scientific sampling would you prefer? Witch doctor's opinion? examining entrails of dead animals? examining bones of dead animals? or maybe just dispense with all that and say your opinion matters more than those of others because you "feel" your opinion more deeply.

7. Polls showed most Americans believed Saddam had WMD
Are people just stupid, or is it perhaps that the information they possess, and the opinions derived from that information, are shaped by someone else; someone with a vested interest in keeping people confused and ignorant?

for a much better review of the Republican propaganda machine than i could ever provide.

It was written by a star of the Republican attack media during the Clinton administaration. He knows the GOP, I mean, the Corporate Lobbyist party from the inside.
