Excerpt:After meeting with his security team, Wednesday evening, President Obama rejected all the proposals for a strategy for the war in Afghanistan. This was the eight meeting President Obama held with his security chiefs. Earlier in the week the New York Times reported that there were four proposals on the table that involved sending either 20,000+ troops, 30,000 or even 40,000 troops.
Obama rejected the proposals presented to him, indicating he was looking for a plan that would show that America's involvement in Afghanistan is not 'open-ended.' The president would like to see a strategy that includes a time line for American troop involvement.
Sometime during the last few days, American Ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry reportedly sent missives to the White House advising President Obama that no additional troops should be sent to Afghanistan, largely because of the corruption in the Afghanistan government. Eikenberry is a retired four star General with on the ground experience in Afghanistan.
