1. Still, I wonder whether the case of Dede Scozzafava was an anomaly

I may be wrong in my assessment, but there just don't seem to be that many 'moderate Republicans' left. Those in the middle have migrated to the wingnut rump-end of the GOP or abandoned the party altogether.

In any event, I'm glad she endorsed Owens, who went on to win the election, but I wonder how many times that scenario can be recreated. Lots of times, I hope, but I remain skeptical.
