Five charged in torture, beating of loan modification agentshttp://www.pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_13644968Prosecutors filed criminal charges on Monday against two men accused of beating and torturing a pair of loan modification agents who they believed didn't do enough to restructure a home loan.
Daniel Weston, 52, of La Canada Flintridge, and Gustavo Canez, 36, of Los Angeles, are scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon on charges of torture, false imprisonment and robbery, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office.
Three additional people were charged in the case last week. They are Mario Soloman Gonzales, 47, of Glendale, Marissa Parker, 49, of Sylmar, and Mary Ann Parmelee, 52, of La Canada Flintridge.
Prosecutors say Weston and Parmelee were in foreclosure on their home when they sought assistance from the victims. They asked for their money back after concluding the victims were not doing enough to help them, prosecutors say.
The five defendants allegedly set up a meeting with the victims. It was during that meeting that Weston and Canez beat and tortured the pair in front of the other suspects, according to prosecutors.
Parmelee is a licensed realtor, according to state records.
Prosecutors say Gonzales, Parker and Parmelee had a business relationship with the agents in which they referred customers to them for loan modifications.
