Will: Time for Bush to See The Realities of Iraq
Edited on Tue May-04-04 12:55 AM by grytpype
Looks like Perfesser Will is off the reservation but good... he's clearly more of a conservative than he is a Bushist.

Time for Bush to See The Realities of Iraq

By George F. Will

...

This administration cannot be trusted to govern if it cannot be counted on to think and, having thought, to have second thoughts. Thinking is not the reiteration of bromides about how "all people yearn to live in freedom" (McClellan). And about how it is "cultural condescension" to doubt that some cultures have the requisite aptitudes for democracy (Bush). And about how it is a "myth" that "our attachment to freedom is a product of our culture" because "ours are not Western values; they are the universal values of the human spirit" (Tony Blair).

1. nice rebuke of neo-conservatism
despite the fact that Will is a conservative, I still like most of his articles, He is a genuis and I have alot of respect for him (not necessarily b/c he is a genius). He's written many thought provoking articles and this one is no execption.

2. genius?
Please....this man has been an institutional pillar of the Republican Party. He's been a big cheerleader of this administration.

But even he's beginning to realize that this administration is a runaway trainwreck waiting to happen. He's sensing a sinking ship and making sure he's got a vest and a place on the lifeboat.

4. I'm not so sure he's a genius...

I don't know what his IQ is. He's fairly intelligent to be sure and writes well, but I think he fakes it a lot.

Will likes to wander into historical interpretation now and then, and it's when he does this that I most clearly see his deficiencies. He speaks with authority about things of which he is clearly ignorant. Historians tend to cringe when he takes on such subjects.

3. When the last ship sails from the harbor, who guards the port?
This actually worries me. When guys like George Will start pea-shooting at the ship of state, who in the Sam Hill are the sane minds that moderate these people?

Do you realize how screwed up that idea is, that George Will might be a moderating influence on the people in power?

6. Did Will admit the Repubs are the party of racism?
"But if any Americans want to be governed by politicians who short-circuit complex discussions by recklessly imputing racism to those who differ with them, such Americans do not usually turn to the Republican choice in our two-party system."

8. No, he's just saying the Dems are the party of "recklessly" playing
the racism card, if you wind through all his verbiage.

10. Wow, they've lost sWill?
I guess it was bound to happen. Just because they're reactionary doesn't mean that they're all stupid, and the rats are the first ones to know that the ship is sinking. Hey, conservatives, better jump now and get some distance before the SS Ratf**k takes you down with it.

13. The Pompous Rat deserting the ship is he? And no Apologies for
helping elect the Bush?

The evidence is clearly piling up to the point of no return. Will has seen it, its coming.

I wonder if the others will see the wisdom of jumping too and I also wonder if they will apologize for being mouthpieces for Bush. Guys like Sean, OReally, Rash, Savage, etc

I should make a thread on this
