The Healthcare Solution: Universal Medicare ?

Does anyone here really want a "public option"? Isn't that a comprise solution?
Isn't what we really want universal coverage, which currently goes by the name "single-payer"?
But why call it that?
Some people find "single-payer" a new concept and worry about what it would mean.

Here IMO is what we should be fighting for.
"Universal Medicare"

It's easy to understand because the entirely of the new law would be this:
The minimum age for Medicare will change from 65 to 0.

Slogans:
Universal Medicare: Because no American should have to wait 65 years for decent health care.
Universal Medicare: Senior-level healthcare for all Americans.

Maybe we should be demanding Universal Medicare?
An idea whose time has come?

2. i agree with that. it already exists.... has a framework... and has a record of

working and while there may be a few bugs to work out, i think it is easier for everyone to understand than starting from scratch. Any questions of solvency would be moot, because the reason there is an issue is because as people age, they get more illnesses... and it seems that if healthy AND sick were in the same system, they would offset each other. This has, to me, seemed like the best idea from the beginning. and as exists now, the insurance companies can offer gap insurance or something on top of what people have now.

This is the one that scares the shit out of the Repukes and their health "care" benefactors. It's cheap, comprehensive, easy to administer, and a thundering success for 45 years. The reason it's not on the table is because it would work, and the bloodsuckers of Big Insurance would be have to find another way to get rich.

4. universal medicare sounds good

because people can identify with medicare. I think they are making this health care reform too complicated and then it only confuses people. Single payer is what we really need.



I'm not worried about the government coming between me and my Dr. The health insurance companies are already doing a fine job of that with their HMO's telling us what Dr's we can go to.

Most of the assholes stirring up shit at the town halls are already on medicare and love it. They'd be forced into a position of "I don't want you to have what I have".

8. I watched a video today... Sorry that my short-term memory

will not provide names, locations, dates or links. ;-) The congresscritter asked how many (of the whitehairs present) had insurance, then how many were covered by THAT SOCIALIST Medicare. Same hands went up on both questions. ANOTHER whitehair duly remarked that those in opposition "got theirs' and didn't really give a shit about anyone else... Thank you St. Ronnie! O8)
