Matthew Rothschild: Dick Cheney, Rogue Meister

Dick Cheney, Rogue Meister
By Matthew Rothschild, July 14, 2009

We’re not supposed to live under a junta or a dictatorship. We’re supposed to be a democracy, with a refined system of checks and balances. But Cheney despises democracy.

The more we find out about the Bush Administration, the more it becomes obvious that there wasn’t a rogue operation here and there, once in a while.

The whole thing was a rogue operation, 24/7.

And the rogue-meister was Dick Cheney.

It’s hardly shocking that Cheney told the CIA not to inform Congress about a secret assassination program it was working on.

Cheney has nothing but disdain for Congress and for the rule of law.

snip//

As far as not telling Congress about the CIA’s assassination program, Cheney’s daughter, Liz, says her father was just trying to protect the national security of the country.

But that’s the excuse that every fascist gives.

We are not a monarchy. We’re not supposed to live under a junta or a dictatorship. We’re supposed to be a democracy, with a refined system of checks and balances.

But Cheney despises democracy.

And it’s not just Cheney who flagrantly violated the law. Bush and Donald Rumsfeld did, too. Even back in 2005, Amnesty International http://www.progressive.org/?q=mag_impunity
said there was “prima facie” evidence that Bush and Rumsfeld had committed “war crimes,” and that foreign countries had an obligation to apprehend them if the U.S. judicial system did not do its job.

We need a special prosecutor now with wide-ranging powers to get to the bottom of the war crimes and other felonies that the most senior members of the Bush Administration committed.

Let there be accountability.

1. I agree with everything in the article. Succinct, but explains his actions.
It at least explains the actions we know about or suspect. However, I'll bet a dime to a donut there is much more to come to the surface with this guy.

He'd better get his battery checked on that pacemaker.

2. While it bothers me that Cheney left behind
what amounts to basically an 'independent cell,' what bothers me the most is that for the better part of half a year, those tasked with this at the CIA LISTENED. They really expected to operate under the radar of even the President of the United States! Perhaps even working against him, knowing these people.

The ramifications of this are profound.

Don’t Shoot
The CIA's kill teams were modeled on Israel's hit squads
By Mark Hosenball and Michael Isikoff | Newsweek Web Exclusive

Cheney has not commented. Two former officials familiar with Cheney's role in the scheme maintained that the program was not the former vice president's idea; one of the officials said that when discussion about the program surfaced at the CIA during the final years of the Bush Administration, Cheney was not involved in any way, and that Cheney was not, at least late in the administration, responsible for ordering the agency to continue to withhold information about the program from Congress. Instead, the agency itself decided to withhold Congressional briefings because it did not believe that the program had become operationally advanced enough to warrant them. But other officials confirmed to NEWSWEEK that Cheney was involved in discussions about the program and had pressed the CIA not to inform Congress about it. Some of the officials said that Cheney's involvement may turn out be the most politically explosive aspect of the controversy.

5. Interesting article.

This could be a major, major, break for those of us who would like to see justice served over the policies and actions of the last eight years.

All the lipstick in the world won't do a thing for that sneering, beady-eyed, pig, if it turns out he played a role.

3. I've thought all along that it was actually Bush Sr.'s second term with Cheney serving in the
secrecy of the VP slot, completing the unfinished business of GHW Bush. Bill Clinton interrupted that process with his Pres election, which is why there had to be a Monica Lewinsky scandal with the help of Linda Tripp, & the destruction of a very popular President, in order to bring about the bogus (Diebold)election & the ilegal selection of their prop-man, GW.

GW knew nothing more than Palin when he became pRes, but that wasn't necessary anyway, since his job was to follow his handlers orders, allowing Cheney, Rummy and GHW's 'shadow govt' to operate as they saw fit.

Their mission was purely self enhancing.

They needed to regain access to the power of the White House in order to run their secret shadow govt.

What is treason if not this?
