President Obama's approval drops from 74% to 70% among moderates

In a Gallup poll released today, President Obama's approval ratings have fallen among liberals, moderates and conservatives since May. His approval rating is down to 88% from 90% by liberals and 74% to 70% among moderates. Obama's approval numbers by conservatives dropped from 42% to 37% between May and June.

President Obama's approval ratings dropped overall from 65% in May to 61% in June. Is the honeymoon over for President Obama as some pundits suggest? Hardly. One only has to look at the president's approval ratings between January and June to see that his approval rating has remained fairly consistent during his first six months in office.

1. Quinnipiac has him down quite a bit in Ohio.

Poll: Obama's approval rating in Ohio tumbles by Joe Hallett
(Columbus Dispatch, July 8, 2009)

Frustrated Ohioans are starting to blame President Barack Obama for the state's economic problems, according to a statewide poll released today.

Obama's approval rating is in a free-fall in Ohio, considered by many political observers to be the most important swing state in a presidential election. A new survey by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute shows that only 49 percent of the state's voters approve of the way Obama is handling his job, 13 points lower than the 62 percent who gave Obama a thumbs up in a May 6 Quinnipiac poll of Ohioans.

The 49-44 percent approval rating represents Obama's lowest approval rating in any national or statewide Quinnipiac poll since he was inaugurated last January. In May, Ohioans approved of his job performance, 62-31 percent.

"The economy in Ohio is as bad as anywhere in America," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the polling institute. "These numbers indicate that for the first time voters have decided that President Barack Obama bears some responsibility for their problems.

Isn't this what the Freepers said would happen?

2. I don't get the need of your comment to that.
It was predictable that until the economy stabilizes Obama's approval ratings will come under pressure. The same thing happened to Reagan in the first two years of his term.

3. He lost Liberals by 2 points, moderates by 4 and cons by 5.
I hope this doesn't mean more moves to the center in attempts to regain lost ground.

5. Ohioans are mostly repug anyway and are just looking for a reason to not like him. I live among
them, they for the most part hate anything progressive, at least around my neck of the woods.

who want health care, not health insurance, and want it NOW!

Hence the sudden backing and filling by Rahm and the Man himself, and the attention to Dr. Dean, who is riding high with Al Franken.

Also the complete failure and breaking scandals concerning Goldman Sachs and its alumni and camp followers.

Yes, it's going to be a sweet summer, making the Democrats eat grass and produce some milk for a change.

8. Does no one see the irony of a mere 70% approval rating among moderates?
That's what I was hoping to show here.

9. Plenty of politicians would be DELIGHTED with 'only' a 70% approval rating from moderates...
and 'only' 61% overall.

Gordon Brown, for example, would think he was in seventh heaven....
