RE: PERHAPS TENET WAS WITH BUSH ON AUGUST 24, 2001, IN CRAWFORD?
In regard to Fred Kaplan's article:
http://slate.msn.com/id/2098861/...where the CIA reports that George Tenet briefed George Bush two times in August 2001 - Aug. 17 and Aug. 31 - I'd like to offer the following, which indicate that George Tenet was at Bush's Crawford Ranch on AUGUST 24, 2001.
In the whitehouse.gov website, there is an AUGUST 25, 2001, press release interview with Bush as he gives a tour of the ranch, WHERE HE MENTIONS THAT HE HAD BEEN WITH TENET THE PREVIOUS DAY (quote and link below).
Also, to confirm the date of the tour of the ranch, in the interview BUSH ALSO MENTIONS THAT HE WOULD BE GOING TO THE LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES AND "HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY" "TOMORROW." Below is a link to the web page discussing his visit and the fact that he was to be "ENSHRINED AT THE HALL OF EXCELLENCE OF THE PETER J. MCGOVERN LITTLE LEAGUE MUSEUM," and the date of the event: AUGUST 26, 2001.

President Gives Tour of Crawford Ranch
Remarks by the President During Tour of the President's Ranch
Prarie Chapel Ranch
THE PRESIDENT: Actually, you know, what we call the governor's house, the place where you all came out during the -- that's where we went. Condi and Karen Hughes stayed there. And right across the street from that is a -- it's a nice looking government doublewide. (Laughter.) And that's where the mil aide, the nurse, the WHCA head, the doc, they stay.
The CIA briefings, I have on our porch, the end of our porch looking out over the lake. WHEN TENET CAME UP, THAT'S WHERE WE VISITED, OUT THERE.
You know, everybody wants to see the ranch, which I'm proud to show it off. So GEORGE TENET AND I -- YESTERDAY, WE PILED IN THE NEW NOMINEES FOR THE CHAIRMAN OF THE JOINT CHIEFS, THE VICE CHAIRMAN AND THEIR WIVES AND WENT RIGHT UP THE CANYON.
…
THE PRESIDENT: Well, we walked -- actually this morning I ran three-and-a-half miles, and walked. And then Laura and Condi Rice and two of our house guests, they walked four-and-a-half-miles. It was just magnificent. Started about 7 a.m. this morning.
I'll work out here until around noon. We've got three couples as house guests. Beth, the barber from Austin, is coming out. She'll want to see this place. So I'll give her a tour. I WANT TO LOOK GOOD FOR THE LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES TOMORROW. THE HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY.
Further confirmation of the date of comments of George Bush at the tour of the ranch – at the 2001 Home Page the Williamsport Little League World Series Coverage:

The Fred Kaplan Article:
The Out-of-Towner - While Bush vacationed, 9/11 warnings went unheard.

http://slate.msn.com/id/2098861/In an otherwise dry day of hearings before the 9/11 commission, one brief bit of dialogue set off a sudden flash of clarity on the basic question of how our government let disaster happen.
The revelation came this morning, when CIA Director George Tenet was on the stand. Timothy Roemer, a former Democratic congressman, asked him when he first found out about the report from the FBI's Minnesota field office that Zacarias Moussaoui, an Islamic jihadist, had been taking lessons on how to fly a 747. Tenet replied that he was briefed about the case on Aug. 23 or 24, 2001.
Roemer then asked Tenet if he mentioned Moussaoui to President Bush at one of their frequent morning briefings. Tenet replied, "I was not in briefings at this time." Bush, he noted, "was on vacation." He added that he didn't see the president at all in August 2001. During the entire month, Bush was at his ranch in Texas. "You never talked with him?" Roemer asked. "No," Tenet replied. By the way, for much of August, Tenet too was, as he put it, "on leave."
Update, April 15, 2004: On Wednesday evening, after the hearings, a CIA spokesman called reporters to tell them Tenet had misspoken: It turns out he did brief Bush in August 2001, twice—on Aug. 17 and Aug. 31. Assuming the correction is true, it doesn't negate the point. The first briefing, which the spokesman described as uneventful, took place before Tenet learned about Moussaoui. The second occurred after the president returned to Washington."

A Randi Rhodes listener called this week to say that the evidence of Tenet's August 24 visit was on the whitehouse.gov website, so looked into it tonight.
