If Obama gets his way, some Guantanamo detainees could be sent to Florence, Colo., and the United States' only super-maximun security prison. It is where -- as one judge told a prisoner -- "you will die with a whimper.

... The Florence supermax is based on isolation. For 23 hours each day, inmates are locked away in small, self-contained cells. When they are permitted their hour of exercise, they are shackled and escorted to individual cages to walk where there are limited views of the outdoors.
A measure of the facility's stark environment was offered by U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema three years ago when she sentenced convicted al-Qaeda terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui to spend the rest of his life there.
"To paraphrase the poet T.S. Eliot, you will die with a whimper. You will never again get a chance to speak," the judge said.
Attorney Ronald Kuby, who has represented about a dozen clients who have served time at the Colorado facility, described the isolated environment there as "inhuman and soul destroying" ...
