Breaking Bibi
Breaking Bibi

By Pat Buchanan

June 05, 2009 "Creators Syndicate"-- - "I have to admire the residents of Iroquois territory for assuming that they have a right to determine where Jews lives in Jerusalem."

Thus did Israeli government press director Daniel Seamen caustically dismiss President Obama's opposition to Israel's right to "natural growth" of its settlements in Arab East Jerusalem and on the West Bank.

Though Obama's address in Cairo broke no new ground, it confirmed to the world that a new day has arrived and a sea change has taken place. The Israel-centric Middle East policy of George W. Bush is dead. And with the policy change has come rhetorical change.

With Bush, it was "axis of evil," "you are with us or you are with the terrorists," "regime change," a "green light" for war on Hezbollah in Lebanon and on Hamas in Gaza, and "this war is a struggle between good and evil."

With Obama in Cairo, it was all about "a new beginning" and "mutual respect" between the United States and an Islamic world of 1.2 billion.

<snip>

Obama is directly challenging the thesis of Israel and its lobby, AIPAC, that U.S. and Israeli interests are one and the same, that we are partners. Barack is saying that settlements are an impediment and an independent Palestinian state indispensable to peace. And even if Israel believes its interests are being subordinated and security imperiled, the United States disagrees — and the United States will prevail.

1. You REALLY couldn't find any good commentary ...
...by someone who doesn't have decades worth of associations with holocaust deniers, white nationalists, the fascist far right, Bitberg? Is this article really so much more insightful than the hundreds of other pro-Obama, anti-Netanyahu articles that can be found just today and that aren't written by known racists? Why seek out the very people whose foul, and yes, antisemitic associations bring discredit on views that you agree with? Do you think that's helpful?

4. Helpful? ... Helpful? ...
I'm going to have to chew that one over.

I'm not sure anyone wants my help.

When it comes to myths, I just don't believe in the 'center-right' myth. I prefer the 'populist' myth.

A progressive congress would de-fund foreign adventurism & 'aid' to Israel. I'll help with that.

5. Blither.
"Populist myths" versus "center-right myths" -- a complete non sequitur. (And what the fuck does it mean that you believe in the populist "myth?").

I'll explain my point, since it seems to have flown by you: If you actually cared bout about your cause, you'd avoid leaning on the opinionating of a known racist, precisely because it can so easily be dismissed. If you actually cared, for example, about ending aid to Israel, you wouldn't say, "Hey, look! A known Nazi sympathizer thinks we should end aid to Israel! Aren't you convinced now?"

On the other hand, if what really gets the juices flowing is proximity to the forbidden pleasures of racism -- excuse me, "populism" -- you'll keep doing just what you do.

6. Hey. Thanks for straightening me out. Is there anything you don't know?
I bet you know everything.

Dismiss whatever you want to dismiss.

Here's an idea; take my side in an argument with yourself. Make up both sides. Get real angry & scream. At yourself.

Whatever.

I'm passing along some reading. I bet there's some people who appreciate it.

Let me know if I win the argument.
