Honeymoon's Over! (McAuliff | NY Daily News)
May 19, 2009

... “We are going to take the President head-on. The honeymoon is over,” Steele said at today’s RNC conference.

“The Honeymoon is over. The honey money is over,” Steele repeated, but insisted that unlike liberals’ assaults on President Bush, his Republican attacks will be respectful and policy-based. “We are going to challenge those policies that we believe are wrong, and we are going to do so without apology and without a second thought.”

We can’t really remember much of a honeymoon, nevertheless, Steele went on to prove that it is indeed over ...

1. A second thought?
There was a first one? Why didn't anyone ever tell me?

2. There was a honeymoon?
Hell, there wasn't even a honeymoon on DU, much less from the Republicans.

3. This is new?
For decades Repubs have "assaulted" every Democrat "without apology and without a second thought", most conspicuously Clinton and Obama from Inauguration Day and on - relentlessly.

It's what people are sick of and what has turned "Independents," in large numbers, away from Repubs.

4. All the same, the Dems had better be prepared to fight the PR war fiercely.

5. Ever notice that they're not particularly good at that?
Republicans, if nothing else, are astoundingly good at playing that game. Of course, having a compliant media doesn't hurt.

6. Yes I have!
And by now, that's pretty sad.

How many elections did they lose ground in because they couldn't fight the PR wars?

And yes, the media sure does help the pukes, but way too many Dems were happy to let the M$M consolidate.

7. It's like being in charge does something to their minds...
It makes them vulnerable, and far less quick on their feet than they should be. Maybe it's an over-reliance on scripting rather than just being straight-forward. Too many consultants, too many reasons to second-guess their reactions. I know Howard Dean stepped on more than a few toes with some of his statements, but all too often he was just telling the truth.

9. "just telling the truth" is what they should all be doing.
I don't know how we're ever going to get it, but what we need is a congress full of people who know what they stand for and would rather go down fighting for it than join the other side just to stay in office.

Careerism seems to make them all corrupt and worthless.

8. Steele's morphing into "Elmer Fudd" to Obama's "Bugs Bunny."
