Mexican Trucking Will Be Revived By U.S., LaHood MX puts $2.4B Tariff MX gets $1.4B From US

Mexico last week applied $2.4 billion in tariffs on at least 90 U.S. products in retaliation for the U.S. suspending rules that let some Mexican trucks operate beyond a zone along the countries’ border. Senators including John McCain, an Arizona Republican, and Mel Martinez, a Florida Republican, have said the U.S. should bring back the program, citing the economic needs of U.S. consumers and exporters.

Obama to visit Mexico amid drug war, trade dispute

The previous U.S. administration agreed to give Mexico and Central America $1.4 billion worth of equipment and training to fight the cartels, but the aid has been slow to arrive as the United States wants assurances it will not end up in the hands of corrupt police or officials working for drug gangs.

Wal-Mart Plans Rapid Expansion Of Retail Bank Business

Launched last year in Mexico, Banco Wal-Mart has banking facilities in 425 stores in 125 cities in Mexico. The bank is run by Jose Maria Urquiza Gonzalez, who says this about the synergies Wal-Mart Mexico hopes to achieve with the new banking business: "Retail banking is very profitable, but I can tell you, because I come from a traditional bank, that retail banking has a lot of 'banking' in the business but very little 'retail.' "

Wal-Mart May Sell Chinese Cars

Kicking Tires explains, "For years, we've been hearing that Chinese cars are on their way, and despite fair skepticism there have been in-roads. Chinese companies like Build Your Dreams have debuted plug-in vehicles at American auto shows, while the Mexican company GS Motors has imported Chinese cars to sell in Mexico. Now the industry must brace for the next big idea, which is to sell low-cost Chinese vehicles at big-box retailers like Wal-Mart and Costco."

Soon we will be changing the name of the USA to WMSC, Wal-Mart-Southern-Coup, the largest employer becomes the largest importer and Banko of America. I think we should stop all imports from Mexico for one year so we can figure out what exactly are politicians have given away.

4. Mexican issues need a really intelligent look
No answers here but it is clear there are a lot of problems, ones which can't be resolved by building some Great Wall between the US and Mexico. BTW, what is happening with that project?

On the trucking issue ... one of the important questions originally raised when this program started was truck safety (poor brakes, bad tires, etc.), and the article indicates that safety proved to be a negative.

But, it has turned out that NAFTA has not proved to be such a great thing for Mexico, according to this article:

Is this another place where the War on Drugs increased the power, and money, of the drug lords? Looks like it.

The Mexicans themselves deserve something better from their country and, I suspect, from us (whatever that might be).
